Yes, still playing catchup. Here are a bunch of the posters that I missed while I was resting.
The Gentlemen
Guy Ritchie getting back to London crime films is a good thing, and this time around he has the most attractive cast ever? And also, Hugh Grant, who is currently in the middle of a run of ridiculously great performances and weird choices. I dig it.
No Time To Die
Daniel Craig’s last Bond film looks like it might strike a balance between homage to the past, fan service, and trying new things. Plus, Ana de Armas is in it I feel like she’s on the verge of being a big part of the new wave of Hollywood actresses. No sign of M with these posters but he’s probably in the movie.
Also, I’m intrigued by the “there’s a new 007 and they have to call up the old 007” rumours about the story.
Mulan
The Disney live-action remakes are a bit hit or miss for me, but this is a gorgeous poster and Mulan is going to be a big deal for so many other reasons that I can’t help be excited about it.
Birds of Prey
I really hope that _Birds of Prey_ is the punk rock good time it’s being sold as, and also that everyone in it is having as good of a time as they look like they’re having. These posters are pretty good. I dig the style.
Wonder Woman ’84
Let me just go on record here and say that I reeeeaaaaaallllllly dig the bright, colourful style that they are going for with the marketing of this movie and I really hope it’s reflective of the movie itself.
Also, I love that Pedro Pascal’s Maxwell Lord is such an obvious Trump pastiche. These are not subtle times so there’s no need to be subtle about it.
Top Gun: Maverick
Top Gun remains one of my all-time favourite popcorn movies and I am legitimately excited that Tom Cruise and Christopher McQuarrie are making a sequel. This looks to be exactly my jam. What can I say, in an era of weaponized nostalgia this one landed a direct hit on me.
Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker
You’ve probably seen at least some of these but here is a whole mess of The Rise of Skywalker posters. Character sheets for what I think is every major character, including our new droid friend D-O, our old friend Lando, and a few other new faces, too. Plus, the IMAX and RealD posters are gorgeous.
