Review: ‘F9’ is ridiculous, but knows its audience

F9

I feel like writing this review might be a little redundant. This is the tenth film in this franchise, so if you’re not on board with the fambly at this point, I’m not sure you ever will be. The franchise shifted from “people who drive good” to “international super spies” over the last few films, and this one continues the cycle of one-upmanship with a trip to space.

Yes, they go to space in this one, so it’s an apt comparison when I say that this might be their Moonraker moment when they finally abandon all pretence of realism. Please note: I like Moonraker.

Paul Walker’s ‘Fast and Furious’ Character To Be Retired

Paul Walker

Unless you live under a rock you’re aware that [Paul Walker died in a car crash late last year](https://awesomefriday.ca/2013/11/holy-shit-fast-and-furious-star-paul-walker-has-died-in-a-car-crash/). At that time he was busy with a number of things, of which the highest profile was the seventh _Fast & Furious_ film.

Since he wasn’t done filming his part the production was halted so that the question of what to do could be answered. Looks like they have found that answer.

Review: Fast and Furious 6

Fast and Furious 6

The tagline for Fast and Furious 6 us _”All Roads Lead To This”_ and it’s actually pretty apt. I’m a fan of the series because I like watching fast cars but this is probably the first film where everything went right. In fact Furious 6 (as it’s called by it’s own title card) is likely the best film in the series.

Yeah, I’m saying that after 6 tries (or five, depending how you count) they’ve finally gotten the formula right and the movie is entertaining as hell from start to finish.

This isn’t to say the movie is objectively good by any stretch but a movie doesn’t need to necessarily be objectively _good_ to be solidly _entertaining_.

Trailer: Fast and Furious 6 Extended Trailer is Kind of Awesome

Fast and Furious 6

We saw the first trailer during the Super Bowl and now there’s an extended version.

I’m looking forward to this movie. Like I’ve said before the 4th and 5th entries in this series were both good, with Fast Five being the best in the series so far if you ask me. This looks like it’s going to tie up all the loose ends from the story so far and bring (almost) every character into the action. Luke Evans appears to be a bit of a stereotype “ex special forces bad guy” but as long as he has the charisma there’s nothing wrong with that in a movie like this.

And let’s face it, some of the stuff they do with the cars is pretty freaking sweet.

If I have any complaints they’d be that at 3 minutes 20 seconds this trailer doesn’t really leave me wanting a lot more. I’m worried that I’ve basically seen the whole movie now (which wouldn’t be the first time that’s happened) and also I kind of wish they’d stuck with one system for naming the movies so that this one would be called _6 Fast 6 Furious_.

Trailer: Fast and Furious 6 Super Bowl Spot

Fast and Furious 6

Fast and Furious 6, yes it’s the 6th film in the franchise, gets a Super Bowl spot.

Well, it’s certainly a Fast and Furious trailer isn’t it? Lots of ridiculous car driving action, explosions, women wearing not a whole lot, this is all but guaranteed to make a boat load of cash. And you know what? If it’s anything like Fast Five then it’ll be deserving.

Seriously, Fast Five was all kinds of fun.

Plus, based on shots in this trailer it looks like they might be tying up loose ends from Fast and Furious and Fast Five, forming a loose trilogy. I’m not opposed to that.

Also, Han Seoul-Oh is still in this one. Since he died in Tokyo Drift (that’s the third one) that makes all the films since prequels to that one, which begs the question: what the hell year does Tokyo Drift take place in.

Also, yes, [“Han Seoul-Oh” is the characters actual name](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_The_Fast_and_the_Furious_characters#Han_Seoul-Oh).
