Let’s Take A Closer Look at the ‘Dune’ Trailer (with 70+ HD captures)

Just look at how gorgeous this desert is. Apparently Denis Vileneuve was adamant about shooting in a real desert and you know what? I’m glad for that.

Everyone facing Arrakis for the first time. I’d like to take this moment to comment that the costuming, once again, is exquisite. So is Oscar Isaac’s beard.

You know I don’t want to start with hyperbole and awards bait and such, but I hope this film gets Grieg Fraser some awards love.

Not to mention the production design team.

Our first look at Jason Momoa as Duncan Idaho, friend and surrogate brother of Paul and loyal Atreides fighter. This movie is going to give Momoa a chance to show off his stage combat skills, but I’m happy its going to let him remind us that he’s a good actor with a fun presence, too.

I’m not going to lie, I nearly didn’t recognize Javier Bardem at first.

Our first good look at Dave Bautista as the beast Glossau Rabban, and the (presumably) Sardaukar troops he will lead into battle. Rabban is a brute and Bautista looks the part. And look at the costumes again!

Jessica and Paul at the realization their family is being destroyed, and our first good look at Chang Chen as Dr Yueh.

The Harkonnen troops can fly, or least hover. I don’t remember that being the case in the books but it makes sense with the Baron himself making extensive use of suspensors that let him float around. Also, look at the detail on those helmets. I wonder how much of them is CGI and how much is practical.

Atreides in stillsuits! For those of you not in the know, these are the suits that let the Fremen people –the natives of Arrakis– survive in the desert by capturing and recycling all the moisture that the human body secretes. Fun, right?

Jason Momoa being a badass. There’s a lot of fighting in this trailer that is just too fast to capture a frame from but if you really want to get an idea what the guy is capable of you should check out his series See on AppleTV+, in which he has more than a few scenes where he dispatches people savagely. Fight like a demon, indeed. Also, there are those shield effects again.

Paul and Chani finally meeting. If you look closely you can see the blue in her eyes. I love that they decided to go subtle with it. Also, I know I keep saying this, but look at those damned costumes.
