A long time ago we used to be friends… and then after 3 seasons Veronica Mars got cancelled. Apparently 2007 wasn’t ready for a neo-noir CW drama. For years fans of the series campaigned for a movie and when creator Rob Thomas and star Kristen Bell launched a kickstarter in 2013 they broke records. They raised their goal of $2 Million in 10 hours, and went on to raise $5.7 Million total.
Someone at the CW noticed that the Marshmallows are a force to be reckoned with. Which is why they’re launching a CW Seed web series!
The series is called “Play It Again, Dick” based on Ryan Hansen‘s character Dick Casablancas. Bell will be back as Veronica Mars, as will Enrico Colantoni as her father Keith. Jason Dohring (Logan), Percy Daggs III (Wallace), Chris Lowell (Piz), Ken Marino (Vinnie), Francis Capra (Weevil) & Daran Norris (Cliff) will all be back in Neptune as well.
Creator Rob Thomas says it will be a little more like Party Down (another amazing show he created) with the focus being on Dick. It premieres September 15th.
If you have not seen Veronica Mars the television show, I urge you to track it down and do so immediately. A lot of people initially dismissed the premise of a teenage girl detective, and as words on a page I admit it seems a hard sell to adult males specifically. But it’s a great representation of new noir, the dialogue is catchy and each season has an over arching who-dunnit that keeps you guessing. Not to mention the acting is fantastic and you’ll see a ton of faces you recognize.
Other guest stars of the series include Tina Majorino, Julie Gonzalo, Harry Hamlin, Charisma Carpenter, Amanda Seyfried, Max Greenfield, Krysten Ritter, Ed Begley Jr, Aaron Ashmore, Ryan Devlin, Cress Williams, Lisa Rinna, Alyson Hannigan, Leighton Meester, Melissa Leo, Jessica Chastain, Kevin Smith, Lucy Lawless, Jane Lynch, Paul Rudd… hell, even Paris Hilton made an appearance in one of the first episodes.
So go… fall in love with Veronica and the other weirdos living in Neptune. And yes, a Mars lives in Neptune. She also drives a Saturn. Don’t worry she makes sure to point all of that out.
