Veronica-Mars-veronica-mars-and-dick-casablancas-31445401-1500-1200A long time ago we used to be friends… and then after 3 seasons Veronica Mars got cancelled.  Apparently 2007 wasn’t ready for a neo-noir CW drama.  For years fans of the series campaigned for a movie and when creator Rob Thomas and star Kristen Bell launched a kickstarter in 2013 they broke records.  They raised their goal of $2 Million in 10 hours, and went on to raise $5.7 Million total.

Review: Veronica Mars

Veronica Mars

Just so this is out-of-the-way up front: I never watched the TV series _Veronica Mars_. I have pretty much zero context for the film other than that a lot of people really liked the show but then it as cancelled and then last year the makers of the show started a [KickStarter project](https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/559914737/the-veronica-mars-movie-project) to make a movie. With a $2 Million goal they had modest hopes, but then they were funded to the tune of $5 million dollars from people in 21 countries, became the fastest kickstarter project to his $1 million and then $2 million, and now we have a movie. A movie which a lot of people have really been looking forward to but I have no context for.

So how does it stand up? Pretty well actually.

Veronica Mars Movie First Look from ComicCon

Veronica Mars

Veronica Mars was one of those shows with a devoted fan base, so say the least. The Browncoats may have convinced Hollywood to make Serenity after Firefly was cancelled, but the Marshmellows actually paid for it to happen, and in the process made a boat load of money for Kickstarter and maybe changed some of the rules of Hollywood too.

The producers are at ComicCon right now they brought a behind the scenes video and trailer for their fan funded film. Let’s watch!
