There’s a new trailer for the Disney+ series The Mandalorian . Let’s take a closer look!
VIDEO
Well, that was a hell of a trailer. Here are 70 captures from it, some with some thoughts attached. The series takes place five years after The Return of the Jedi (and 25 before The Force Awakens ), and it’s interesting to think that maybe in a lot of places the infrastructure collapsing kind of ruined the place.
In any event, this looks great and I guess I am subscribing to Disney+ for sure now. Let’s take a look at some stills.
It’s five years after the fall of the empire. Doesn’t seem like it’s gone too well for the storm troopers. “Is the world more peaceful since the revolution?” If you want your narration to be epic, have Werner Herzog read it. I love how much this looks like a western. I love the helmet design. Did I mention I like how much this looks like a western? True story, a lot of the action in this is so fast I couldn’t get non-blurry frames. There are a couple instances in this of the Mandalorian using his armour. I know that Mandalorian Armour is a big deal canonically but this seems like it might be a little more durable? There’s that armour again, saving his life. Is this guy a Trandoshan? He looks like a Trandoshan to me. Nothing like a spear that will send a guy flying across the room. Here’s the only real moment of fan service in the trailer and the only moment I’m not fond of. The carbon freezing always seemed like me to be something the empire cobbled together because it was all they had on Bespin, and they only did it to Han Solo to make sure it wouldn’t kill Luke Skywalker. Now it’s just the way that prisoners are transported? That seems a bit … weird. Look I just relaly like the logo. Am I the only one getting Battle Beyond the Stars vibes from the ship? I love the engine noise of this ship. Offloading carbonite frozen bounties from the ship. Sure. This is a gorgeously composed shot. I sincerely hope there’s an alien playing a space piano and he suddenly halts playing and the whole place turns to look at our hero walking in the saloon door. “They said you were coming.” Storm Troopers, eh? I wonder if the Imperial Remnant from the old Expanded Universe are going to be a thing. Everything is better with Werner Herzog in it. Yup. The blaster effects in this are great. There’s his armour saving him again. And here he is shooting the person who shot him. You get the feeling that he’s a gunslinger in the galactic old west. Our hero, but not exactly a hero. I’m not 100% sure but I’d be willing to bet that this is Mandalore in a flashback during the Clone Wars. Take a look at the B2 Super Battle Droid in the background. Oh good, he has a grappling hook! That he uses to catch fools. Pesky fugitives, always shooting back. There’s the blaster shot bouncing right off the armour again. And here’s our hero shooting the guy who shot him, again. I don;t know what this beast is called but I htink it looks amazing. Maybe there will be a rodeo? Not sure who that is on the left. Anyone? Have I mentioned how much I love how this looks like a space-wes tern? Flying through space with someone shooting at him. Carl Weathers! Gina Carano! Best friends forever? Seriously, this is beautifl. Giancarlo Esposito has a glorious space cape. And an excellent space smirk. We know he’s playing Moff Gideon, so presumable Moff is a terms for a governor in the empire? In any event it seems like the empire ending didn’t go so well for him, right up until it did. I don’t actually know, is this the same droid from the original trilogy or just another from the same line? Either way, this shoot out is dope. I can’t decide if this is a flashback or something that happens in the present of the seires. Gina Carano kicking some butt. She’s not a Mandalorian in the show, she’s an imperial turned rebel. Bill Burr is here! Latched on to a Tie-Fighter of some kind. Going after Giancalo in the tie fighter. “Look outside. They are waiting for you. “ “Yeah? Good.” YUUUUUUUUP. I even dig the title card.
Disney+ drops in November and The Mandalorian will be added on a near-weekly basis moving forward. I, for one, am looking forward to it. Space Westerns are just the best, and weekly delivery is the best also. Nothing like time to actually think about what you just watched. Binging took that away from us.
The Mandalorian looks and sounds great, the only thing left is to watch it and find out.
