Sony Vice President Amy Pascal:
> “We are going to access Marvel’s full world of Spider-Man characters, so be on the lookout for new heroes and villains”
So that’s another thing that is happening.
You all know I’m a massive Marvel fanboy, and in particular I completely geek out over the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Other studios have taken notice too except instead of needing out they are watching Marvel rake in all the cash and want a piece of that action for themselves.
I don’t actually have a problem with this in and of itself. However I am worried that Sony might end up going the route that DC is by just throwing more characters on screen as opposed to the route that made Marvel successful: make me give a crap about the characters.
Either way there are a lot of Spider-Man characters that could hold their own story. Black cat for one, Silver Sable for another, there’s always Venom (who has been both a villain and an anti-hero), and hell I’m sure they could make a movie out of any of the goblin characters if they really wanted. Let’s not forget any of the Spider-Woman (there have been a couple) or Scarlet Spider either.
Sony Pictures also does television so there’s all kind of potential there for tie ins.
So basically we’ve just witnessed the birth of another Cinematic Universe. Hopefully it turns out better than their first movie did.
