No, I’m not going to do a joke about the director of _Yes Man_ being brought onto be Marvel’s Yes Man.

Remember the purple skinned guy from the mid credits stinger of the Avengers? He’s one of the big bads of the Marvel Universe. He’s going to be in _Guardians of the Galaxy_ and likely at least appear in _Avengers: Age of Ultron_ and the entire nerd internet has basically assumed that he’ll be the big bad of _Avengers 3_. And now he’s been cast.

I’ve been thinking a lot about the Marvel Cinematic Universe lately. There has been nine feature films to date as well as five short films and sixteen episodes (out of twenty-two) of the television series _Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D._. That’s a lot of storytelling right there so as much for my own benefit as for yours I’m going to run down the current state of the universe as it stands right now, immediately post _Captain America: The Winter Soldier_ and after episode 16 of _Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D._, as I see it and offer some speculation as to where things are going.
This is obviously going to contain spoilers for, well, _everything_ in the MCU so far so my recommendation is to get caught up before you read this. Either that or no complaining. I’m also making predictions about what I think is going to happen moving forward so if I’m right, and I all but know that I am about one thing in particular, then consider this your spoiler warning.
Also go get yourself a cup of coffee or something because this is going to take a while.
Ok? Ok. Let’s do this.
We’ve known for a while that Marvel had a film scheduled for 6 May 2016, and we’ve known for a while that _Man of Steel 2_ was bumped back to that same date. Now it turns out that _Captain America 3_ is going head to head with Superman. And also Batman.
_Captain America: The Winter Soldier_ isn’t even out yet but just in case a third film didn’t feel inevitable enough [Variety is reporting that the Russo’s will be back to direct a third instalment](http://variety.com/2014/film/news/anthony-joe-russo-captain-america-3-1201073078/). When it’s green lit. Which of course neither they nor Marvel have any comment about.
Still none of this should be surprising. In fact I was kind of expecting the news after Cap 2’s first weekend to go something along the lines of “Cap 2 makes all the money, Cap 3 official green lit” or something to that effect.
Cap 2 is out on April 4th so we’ll see if all the fuss is worth it then but I, for one, hope it is.
So the Marvel Cinematic Universe is basically the US Harry Potter, in which everyone who is an actor will have a part.
This is not a complaint as they’ve just added Michael Douglas to the mix.

This is amazing: Paul Rudd has been cast as Hank Pym in Marvel’s Ant-Man, the first film in their third phase of films.
Holy shit! Marvel and Netflix are basically doing for TV series what they did for movies. 4 Heroes. Each get their own 13 episode series, and they they work together in a mini-series team up. Holy shit.
We were all expecting Thanos to be the big bad in Avengers 2 but suddenly that doesn’t seem to be the case. Holy shit.
In an utterly unshocking turn of events Marvel has ponied up the cash to get Robert Downey Jr. Back in the suit for Avengers 3 and Avengers 3. Full details after the jump.
