Star Trek 3 Will Be Directed By Justin Lin

Justin Lin

A while back Roberto Orci was removed from the directors chair of Star Trek 3. This is a good thing. He’s not a great writer (or even a good one) but he keeps getting jobs with popular franchises and as a result keeps getting hired. Star Trek 3 would have been his directorial début as well and while I’m sure he had a vision? At the end of the day you don’t just hand the reins to a franchise like Star Trek to a first timer.

So he was removed and today it was announced that Justin Lin, he of the Fast and Furious Franchise, has been hired to replace him. I’m going to tentatively say this is a good move. Lin is a good director of action and of large ensembles. His films are fun and engaging and heartfelt. I don’t know that he’s a perfect fit but I think he’s a better fit that Orci. I just hope that they get back to exploring the galaxy as well as our own morality rather than the “holy shit look at that explosion!” style we’ve gotten lately.

Trailer: Fast and Furious 6 Extended Trailer is Kind of Awesome

Fast and Furious 6

We saw the first trailer during the Super Bowl and now there’s an extended version.

I’m looking forward to this movie. Like I’ve said before the 4th and 5th entries in this series were both good, with Fast Five being the best in the series so far if you ask me. This looks like it’s going to tie up all the loose ends from the story so far and bring (almost) every character into the action. Luke Evans appears to be a bit of a stereotype “ex special forces bad guy” but as long as he has the charisma there’s nothing wrong with that in a movie like this.

And let’s face it, some of the stuff they do with the cars is pretty freaking sweet.

If I have any complaints they’d be that at 3 minutes 20 seconds this trailer doesn’t really leave me wanting a lot more. I’m worried that I’ve basically seen the whole movie now (which wouldn’t be the first time that’s happened) and also I kind of wish they’d stuck with one system for naming the movies so that this one would be called _6 Fast 6 Furious_.

Trailer: Fast and Furious 6 Super Bowl Spot

Fast and Furious 6

Fast and Furious 6, yes it’s the 6th film in the franchise, gets a Super Bowl spot.

Well, it’s certainly a Fast and Furious trailer isn’t it? Lots of ridiculous car driving action, explosions, women wearing not a whole lot, this is all but guaranteed to make a boat load of cash. And you know what? If it’s anything like Fast Five then it’ll be deserving.

Seriously, Fast Five was all kinds of fun.

Plus, based on shots in this trailer it looks like they might be tying up loose ends from Fast and Furious and Fast Five, forming a loose trilogy. I’m not opposed to that.

Also, Han Seoul-Oh is still in this one. Since he died in Tokyo Drift (that’s the third one) that makes all the films since prequels to that one, which begs the question: what the hell year does Tokyo Drift take place in.

Also, yes, [“Han Seoul-Oh” is the characters actual name](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_The_Fast_and_the_Furious_characters#Han_Seoul-Oh).
