Trailer: Oblivion Trailer #3

Oblivion

I’ve been on the fence about Oblivion for a while now. If Tron: Legacy was any evidence, Joseph Kosinski is good at making films look good but not at making them actually compelling, and that’s the sort of feeling I’ve been getting from the existing two trailers.

Then they released this one:

I still don’t know if this is going to be a great movie but this trailer certainly goes a lot further in convincing me it’ll be a good one. What do you guys think?

Trailer: The Conjuring

The Conjuring

Some people really like to be freaked out or scared by the movies. I am not one of those people. SO here’s a trailer for a film I might not ever see, not only because it’s in a genre that I’m none too fond of but because HOLY SHIT THIS IS A PERFECTLY EXECUTED CREEPY AS HELL TRAILER.

Seriously, this trailer is like someone asked themselves “hey, what can we do to freak the shit out of Matt?”‘

Trailer: Game of Thrones Season 3

Without Further Ado:

I’m quite excited by this. This season promises to get into territory I’ve not read yet (I haven’t read books 4 or 5) but also it’s finally time to maybe see some real dragon action!

It’s amazing how a good trailer can get me excited for something without actually showing me anything substantial. I suppose that’s the point, but still.

Trailer: Kon Tiki

In 1947 Thor Heyerdahl built a raft of balsa wood and with 5 other men set out from Peru to Polynesia to prove that Peruvians were the first to settle there.

Kon Tiki was the name of the raft.Kon Tiki won the Oscar for Best Documentary in 1951, the book that Heredahl wrote, and now it’s the name of the dramatization of what happened.

This was actually up for Best Foreign Language film this past weekend at the Oscars and from the trailer I can say that it at least _looks_ gorgeous. Will be keeping an eye out for this one.

Trailer: Into the White

Into the White tells the story of a group of British and German bomber squads forced to live and work together by circumstance and weather during World War 2. Let’s take a look.

First thought: I really hope that Rupert Grint is amazing in this. Daniel Radcliffe is branching out and Emma Watson is achieving some acclaim so it would be nice to see them all doing well.

Second thought, this looks like it might be entertaining but a bit predictable. That’s not necessarily a bad thing –look at Avatar, if you couldn’t see every plot point coming there then you probably weren’t paying attention but it was still a hell of movie– but it doesn’t exactly bode well either.

Trailer: Monsters University

Monsters University

I was about to write that it’s not that often that Pixar revisits material, but then I remembered Toy Story 2 and 3, and now Monsters University.

A lot of people I know still count _Monsters Inc_ as their favourite Pixar film but I am not one of them (it comes in th middle of the pack for myself, with _Up!_ and _The Incredibles_ alternately at the top of the list). One of the things I really did like about it though was how self contained of a film it is. There’s really no room to make a sequel to it.

So they went ahead a prequel. I’d love to say I’m excited but to be honest I’m kind of worried. Prequels so rarely work out in my mind because I never feel like I need to know the back story, and often the back stories that are produced are nowhere near as cool as I’d imagined them to be.

Still, this is Pixar so it’s definitely worth giving them the benefit of the doubt. Are you excited for Monsters University?

Trailer: Jack the Giant Slayer

JACK THE GIANT SLAYER

Apologies for the lack of posting folks, real life happened a bit this week. Should be back up to speed by Saturday or so.

In the meantime, Jack the Giant Slayer got a new trailer.

Originally this was scheduled for last year. It certainly looks prettier than the original trailer but this one does a far worse job of selling me on the idea that it might actually be a good movie.

What do you guys think?

Trailer: L’Ecume Des Jours/Mood Indigo is something you need to see

Mood Indigo

Remember how blown away you were by the look and feel of _Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind_ the first time you saw it? Michel Gondry certainly has a style to his own and it looks like he’s about to blow us away again. Here’s the trailer for L’Ecume Des Jours, his latest film (otherwise known as Mood Indigo):

So, another romance set in another crazy dreamscape of a world. I’m totally down for this. I love Gondry’s style and it doesn’t hurt that Audrey Tautou, Romain Duris and Omar Sy, each of them are amazing, are starring.

And just read the synopsis of the novel it’s based on. It’s like it was written for Gondry:

> Colin is a wealthy young man with a resourceful and stylish man-servant, Nicolas, as well as a fantastic olfactory-musical invention: the pianocktail. With dizzying speed, Colin meets and weds ChloƩ in a grand ceremony. Generously, Colin bequeaths a quarter of his fortune to his friends Chick and Alise so they too may marry.

> Happiness should await both couples but ChloƩ falls ill upon her honeymoon with a water lily in the lung, a painful and rare condition that can only be treated by surrounding her with flowers.

Long story short, this looks like it might be the best Gondry film in a while and I can’t freaking wait.

Trailer: Big Ass Spider!

Big Ass Spider

Check this out.

Am I the only one that thinks this movie looks like it might be kind of amazing? Not high art, but a great throwback to the “giant insect” type B-Movies of the past. _Snakes on a Plane_ amazing, if you will.

Here’s the official synopsis:

> An exterminator (Greg Grunberg) and his sidekick (Lombardo Boyar) are caught in an epic battle when a military assault fails to contain a giant alien spider rampaging through the city of Los Angeles.

Looks ridiculous. Where do I sign?

Trailer: Fast and Furious 6 Extended Trailer is Kind of Awesome

Fast and Furious 6

We saw the first trailer during the Super Bowl and now there’s an extended version.

I’m looking forward to this movie. Like I’ve said before the 4th and 5th entries in this series were both good, with Fast Five being the best in the series so far if you ask me. This looks like it’s going to tie up all the loose ends from the story so far and bring (almost) every character into the action. Luke Evans appears to be a bit of a stereotype “ex special forces bad guy” but as long as he has the charisma there’s nothing wrong with that in a movie like this.

And let’s face it, some of the stuff they do with the cars is pretty freaking sweet.

If I have any complaints they’d be that at 3 minutes 20 seconds this trailer doesn’t really leave me wanting a lot more. I’m worried that I’ve basically seen the whole movie now (which wouldn’t be the first time that’s happened) and also I kind of wish they’d stuck with one system for naming the movies so that this one would be called _6 Fast 6 Furious_.

Trailer: Under the Dome Teaser

20130204-232239.jpg

So apparently CBS is making a series out of Stephen Kings “Under the Dome”. Here’s the Super Bowl teaser which shows exactly nothing. Well, it shows a link to a website but other than that if you’ve seen the book cover before then you’ve seen this trailer. Pretty much literally.

Not really sure what to say here other than “[Simpson’s Already Did It](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Simpsons_Already_Did_It)”.

[Read more about it on Wikipedia](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Under_the_Dome_(TV_series)).

Trailers: Iron Man 3 Super Bowl Extended Spot

Iron Man 3

Tony Stark is back folks. Here’s a look at the spot that aired during the Super Bowl followed by the extended (read: better) version posted to the Iron Man Facebook page today.

**_Update: here’s a better embed of the second one:_**

Almost undoubtedly this will be Disney’s biggest film of the year and it looks like they’ve thrown all the monies at it to make sure. This doesn’t show us much new except a slightly better look at the new suit in action. If the rumours are true it’ll be interesting to see whether the folks falling out of Air Force One are actually in harms way or not. No, I wont say more than that. As Google, he knows what I am talking about.

Also, Robert Downey’s “Extended Look” made me laugh out loud. But then again, that’s the type of humour I go in for.

Trailer: Fast and Furious 6 Super Bowl Spot

Fast and Furious 6

Fast and Furious 6, yes it’s the 6th film in the franchise, gets a Super Bowl spot.

Well, it’s certainly a Fast and Furious trailer isn’t it? Lots of ridiculous car driving action, explosions, women wearing not a whole lot, this is all but guaranteed to make a boat load of cash. And you know what? If it’s anything like Fast Five then it’ll be deserving.

Seriously, Fast Five was all kinds of fun.

Plus, based on shots in this trailer it looks like they might be tying up loose ends from Fast and Furious and Fast Five, forming a loose trilogy. I’m not opposed to that.

Also, Han Seoul-Oh is still in this one. Since he died in Tokyo Drift (that’s the third one) that makes all the films since prequels to that one, which begs the question: what the hell year does Tokyo Drift take place in.

Also, yes, [“Han Seoul-Oh” is the characters actual name](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_The_Fast_and_the_Furious_characters#Han_Seoul-Oh).

Trailer: Oz the Great and Powerful Super Bowl Spot

Oz the Great and Powerful

Oz the Great and Powrful get the Superbowl Trailer treatment.

I honestly don’t have a lot to say here. There’s not a lot of new footage and there’s only one shot of the wicked witch and you don’t even see her face.

I can’t put my finger on it, I just can’t seem to get excited about it.

What do you guys think?

Trailer: Star Trek Into Darkness Super Bowl Spot

Star Trek INto Darkness

Super Bowl spot for my own personal most anticipated film of the year.

First off, let me just say this: HOLY SHIT BALLS IS IT MAY YET?

Second off, let me say this: Seriously guys, is it May yet?

And third, Yes I am looking forward to this movie. I’m a dyed in the wool trekkie (Simon’s more interested in Star Wars news) and this looks like it might take everything they learned on 2009’s Star Trek (but couldn’t fix due to the writers strike) and ramp it up considerably. It’s teasing lots of action, and I cannot wait to see Benedict Cumberbatch as the bad guy. Some people think he’s Khan, some people think it’s gonna be Sybok, but I honestly don’t think I want to know. It’s been a bit of a tricky thing keeping myself in the dark in terms of plot details so far but I am going to do my best to keep it up as long as I can.

And a few notes:

1. He’s “better at everything” eh? Lends more credence to the genetically engineered bad guy idea.
2. “Our World Will Fall” eh? So is he after Kirk, or Spock, or the federation, or ?
3. That appears to be the Enterprise crashing through an atmosphere. Holy moly there’s a lot of stuff going on here that’s playing up previous movies.

You may have noticed that this embed was in SD. [See the HD version at Apple.com/trailers](http://trailers.apple.com/trailers/paramount/startrekintodarkness/), it’s much prettier.

Seriously, is it may yet?

**Update:** I forgot to mention, if you have the Star Trek Into Darkness app on your phone or tablet you can unlock a slightly longer version of this spot by having the app listen to it. It’s not much longer (37 seconds vs. the 32 seconds here) but there are a few more shots. Grab it for [iPhone/iPad/iPod here](https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/star-trek-app/id588255788) and for [android here](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.paramount.startrekapp). And if you’re wondering if there’s any spoilery content, it does not appear as such.
