Lauren Bacall, Age 89, Has Died

Lauren Bacall has died, reportedly of a stroke, in her Manhattan home.  She was 89.  Most people will know her as a legend from Hollywood’s “Golden Age” and her roles in films like The Big Sleep, Key Largo, How to Marry a Millionaire.  Also as the love of Humphrey Bogart’s life.  I will always remember her in the movie I pull out every December, All I Want For Christmas.

Steven Soderbergh’s The Knick – Full Pilot on YouTube

Clive Own in Steven Soderbergh's "The Knick" for Cinemax

Great news!  Cinemax has decided to put the full pilot of The Knick , directed by Steven Soderbergh (Magic Mike, Oceans 11/12/13, Solaris, Traffic) on Youtube. And it’s not even geoblocked!  Haven’t heard of the Knick?  It’s stars Clive Owen and takes place at New York’s Knickerbocker Hospital at the turn of the 20th century.  Which is well before “modern medicine”.  In fact it’s sort of the reason why we have modern medicine at all.  You wouldn’t believe the things they used to do to people.  It’s already been picked up for a second season, so check this out!  Just not with children in the room.  Or while you’re eating.

Oh, and bonus Canadian points as it also stars Edmonton’s own Eric Johnson!

Reality Confessions – Zach, Frankie, Big Brother, Social Media Narcissism & The Present Age

I need to come clean about something… I watch Big Brother.  Both the US & Canadian ones.  It’s my reality TV drug of choice.  And what went down last night is exactly why.  For 2 hours drama unfolded that if all the camera feeds were edited together could make an excellent documentary on narcissism in the social media age.

Waiting all summer long for your favourite shows to come back in the fall can feel like forever.  But with the magic of twitter lots of actors are now posting set selfies to give us all a little sneak peek on what they’re working on.  The best of this week includes Chicago PD, Grey’s Anatomy, Criminal Minds, Kingdom and Kevin Bacon suggesting his wife bring home her Brooklyn Nine-Nine costume.

Hi! I’m Katherine, but you can call me Kat.

Hi! I'm Kat!
Hi! I’m Kat!

We haven’t been formally introduced, I’m Katherine.  For the past few weeks I’ve been bombarding you with advice about stuff you should watch on television.  Now that I’ve had my podcast debut I thought I’d say hello!  Because it’s polite and I’m Canadian and it was this or buy everyone Tim Horton’s.

Hello!  I’m Kat.  You can find me on twitter if you’d like.  I used to take pictures & now I write words, and if you like either follow me on tumblr.  I also have a cooking habit, so if you like good food follow this.

Feel free to say hello if you’re so inclined.  I don’t bite unless asked.

~K.

First Trailer – The Theory of Everything

Eddie Redmayne & Felicity Jones star as Stephen Hawking and his wife Jane and how they met in University.  Until this moment I hadn’t heard about this movie, or known much about Hawking’s life before the Hawking we all think of today.  It’s being released in the US on November 7th.  I’m putting it at a dark horse Oscar contender for best actor.

Also starring David Thewlis (Harry Potter), Emily Watson (Punch-Drunk Love), Charlie Cox (Boardwalk Empire) & Harry Lloyd (Game of Thrones).

Casting news!  Kyle MacLachlan has been cast in the role of Skye’s father in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Why? No idea. How? No idea. When? Nope, still no idea.  That’s Marvel’s version of news for ya!

Who is James Corden?

James Corden with his arm on fireIt has been reported that James Corden is going to take over Craig Ferguson’s spot as host of the Late Late Show on CBS.  I guess they took all the “late night needs more diversity!” discussions to heart, making the big leap from a Scottish man to a slightly younger English one.

But I know what you’re thinking… “Who the hell is James Corden?” Continue reading “Who is James Corden?”

Big Bang for their Bucks

abigbang33

Deadline is reporting that after a delay to begin filming season 8 of The Big Bang Theory, 3 of the stars of the show have finalized contracts that will see their salaries triple from $350,000/episode to $1 Million/episode for the next 72 episodes of the show.  The sum draws immediate comparison to the cast of Friends, fitting seeing as The Big Bang Theory seems to be this generation’s iteration of the show, substituting New York yuppies with California nerds.

“A little lower Boone”

Start the countdown, 4o days to the beginning of the end of Sons of Anarchy.  If you haven’t watched it I suggest you spend those days catching the fuck up.

Charlie Hunnam couldn’t make it to Comic-Con this year but he sent along this little gem instead.  I love the camaraderie the SOA cast has shown for so many years.  Despite all the crazy gruesome things Kurt Sutter puts them through on the page they seem to have a lot of fun at work.  Also if you’re looking for some insights into his process WTF Sutter is great.
