Most people have an opinion regarding Pixar these days and usually that opinion is either “still the best animation house” or “I wish they’d get back to original stories”. For those of you in that latter camp here’s some good news: Pixar’s latest film is an original story set inside the mind if a 11 year old girl. Let’s watch a trailer!
There’s not a lot to go on here but I am a fan of the high concept idea of personified emotions. I’m also a fan of the “let’s use our back catalogue to highlight specific emotions” thing because damn if Pixar’s back catalogue isn’t full of emotional moments, and if nothing else has you marking this down as a must see for next year know that it was written and directed by Pete Docter who also wrote and directed _Monster’s Inc_ and _Up!_ (which is my personal favourite Pixar film).
18th June is when we get to see Inside out. Watch for more trailers and posters in the mean time.
> From the tepuis of South America to a monster-filled metropolis, Academy Award®-winning director Pete Docter has taken audiences to unique and imaginative places. In 2015, he will take us to the most extraordinary location of all – inside the mind of an 11-year-old named Riley.
> Growing up can be a bumpy road, and it’s no exception for Riley, who is uprooted from her Midwest life when her father starts a new job in San Francisco. Like all of us, Riley is guided by her emotions – Joy (Amy Poehler), Fear (Bill Hader), Anger (Lewis Black), Disgust (Mindy Kaling) and Sadness (Phyllis Smith).
The emotions live in Headquarters, the control center inside Riley’s mind, where they help advise her through everyday life.
> As Riley and her emotions struggle to adjust to a new life in San Francisco, turmoil ensues in Headquarters. Although Joy, Riley’s main and most important emotion, tries to keep things positive, the emotions conflict on how best to navigate a new city, house and school.
