I love a good con movie. When they’re done right they’re the most engaging of whodunits because you never know who is doing exactly what to whom. Focus stars Will Smith as a con man who appears to take young, just starting out con woman played by Margot Robbie (of Wolf of Wall Street fame) under his wing.
Yeah, I’ll buy that. Let’s take a look.
First of all let me just point out that I’m actually pretty happy to see Will Smith take on a toile that requires some actual acting. He’s a charismatic action star but we often forget he’s a hell of an actor too. Margot Robbie is still stunning and it’s kind of surprising it took this long for her to get another big role after _The Wolf of Wall Street_.
As for the story, well, there’s plenty I could guess at from the tidbits in the trailer but I am not going to. Suffice to say that I’m looking forward to this movie and that it comes out 27th February (for now).
> Will Smith stars as Nicky, a seasoned master of misdirection who becomes romantically involved with novice con artist Jess (Margot Robbie). As he’s teaching her the tricks of the trade, she gets too close for comfort and he abruptly breaks it off. Three years later, the former flame—now an accomplished femme fatale—shows up in Buenos Aires in the middle of the high stakes racecar circuit. In the midst of Nicky’s latest, very dangerous scheme, she throws his plans for a loop…and the consummate con man off his game.
