Some of the funniest jokes in _22 Jump Street_, including an entire montage during the end credits, were all the teasing of future sequels. These were all making fun of the notion that the studio would take their success and then run it into the ground by endlessly sequelizing it.
So now the studio is taking that success and starting to endlessly sequelize it.
[Deadline reports](http://deadline.com/2014/09/sony-sets-rodney-rothman-to-script-23-jump-street-will-lord-miller-return-832021/) that writer Rodney Rothman has been hired to script a third installment in the series with oversight from Phil Lord and Chris Miller. Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill are expected to return as stars and producers also.
I dunno how I feel about this. On the one hand _22 Jump Street_ was hilarious but on the other it will kinda be hard to follow. _23 Jump Street_ could always roast the topes of the “third film in an unplanned trilogy” angle I guess?
Actually, I’d totally watch that as long as they do with “brother of the original antagonist” à la _Die Hard: WIth A Vengence_.
Whether or not you agree with this being a good idea or not _22 Jump Street_ cost $50 Million and made $320 Million so this was kinda bound to happen.
