What a way to absolutely ruin the day.

Terrible news this afternoon that Robin Williams has died after an apparent suicide. He had been struggling with depression and substance abuse for a long time, and it seems it finally got the better of him.

Robin rose to worldwide fame after a starring role in *Mork & Mindy* and went on to shape a career that was amazingly rich and diverse. From an English teacher to animated genie, radio host to serial killer; there was not a role that he could not breathe distinctive life into. His serious roles were always committed and memorable (his turn in *Insomnia* being my personal favourite) but he was loved worldwide for bringing so much joy to so many through his wonderful comedic creativity and timing.

Our thoughts go out to his family at this time. Hopefully the outpouring of love that’s taken over social media today will help in some small way.
