Potentially good news everyone! Constantine may be coming to TV. No, the good comic book Constantine, not the not so good Keanu Reeves movie Constantine. Hopefully.
Following Fox’s straight-to-series pickup of Batman prequel Gotham, the Warner Bros. Television-based comics publisher’s Constantine is being adapted at NBC.
The comics center on John Constantine, an enigmatic and irreverent conman turned reluctant supernatural detective, who is thrust into the role of defending the human race against dark forces from beyond.
Da Vinci’s Demons showrunner David S. Goyer will pen the script alongside The Mentalist EP Daniel Cerone for Warner Bros. Television. NBC has committed to a script plus penalty for the project.
I’m hopeful this will be good. My concerns are thus:
Most of the things that make Hellblazer an interesting comic book are basically already being, or have been, done by Supernatural on CW. I love that show, I don’t know if we need another one.
David Goyer has a questionable history when it comes to this stuff. I get the feeling when his stuff works out it’s because he’s not working solo, so at least there’s that.
What do you guys think? Good idea? Bad?
