Two more posters for the cast of thousands. The tweet for the Bilbo poster says it’s the last one. One can only hope.
This movie has a cast of thousands and every single one of them is getting a poster.
The marketing people for _The Hobbit: The Battle of Five Armies_ are drip feeding us new material on twitter. Three new posters in the last three days, two of which are for characters who weren’t in the book.
Bilbo and Gandalf get their own one sheets for the upcoming third chapter in the Hobbit series. Just think: about a hundred posters, 6 trailers, and just one movie more and we can finally be done with this.

The “defining chapter of The Lord of The Rings” happens to be called “The Hobbit” despite not having much Hobbit.
_The Hobbit: The desolation of Smaug_ was a long movie titled “The Hobbit” which didn’t feature much of the titular hobbit. If this poster is any indication the concluding film in the series will be much the same.
It’s an awesome poster though.
This has been brewing for a while and I never posted about it, but now it’s actually happened so here you go. _The Hobbit: There and Back Again_ has officially been renamed _The Hobbit: The Battle of Five Armies_. Which makes sense for a couple of reasons. Hit the jump to see Peter Jackson’s reasoning and some commentary.
Peter Jackson is an interesting film maker. A background in indie films, specifically indie horror films, he was raised to the top of the A-List when he successfully pulled off adapting J.R.R. Tolkien’s _The Lord of the Rings_ trilogy to the big screen. Those movies are not perfect by any stretch but the books were so rich and full of detail that the theatrical releases actually felt like they were lacking despite being a combined length of over 9 hours.
Now we’re on the second part of his adaptation of _The Hobbit_, the book that preceded the epic trilogy that was _The Lord of the Rings_. That book however is actually pretty short and while it has enough detail to serve the story’s purpose it has nowhere near the depth or scope that the later trilogy does.
Herein lies one of the problems with _The Desolation of Smaug_: You can’t turn a 300 page book into 9 hours of movie without padding the story, and Jackson has padded the story so much, and messed up the pacing so much, that while I don’t think it’s a bad film I also don’t think it’s a great one.
