For many, the Oscars are the last stop of awards season. Up here in Canada though, the highest awards that the Canadian Academy gives out are being awarded this coming Sunday, April 10th. Canada produces a ton of great movies each year, and 2021 was no different.

Presented here is a list of all the nominees for Best Original and Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Supporting Actor and Actress, Best Actor and Actress, Best Director, The John Dunning Best First Feature Award, and Best Picture, along with where you can buy, rent, or stream them.

Last year I was privileged to join the Pandora International Film Critics group, and I am excited to be participating in the 2020 PIFC Awards, honouring excellence in film for the year 2021! The list of nominees is diverse and exciting, and I can’t wait to see how things shake out.

Here is the complete list of nominees, let by Dune and Spencer with 11 nominations each, followed closely by The Power of the Dog with nine, and Mass and The Green Knight with seven each.

Greetings all! It’s the night of nights in Hollywood and Simon and I are back to liveblog the event! the 93rd Academy Awards kick off at 5pm Pacific Time (just a few minutes away) and we’ll be offering snark and commentary, as per usual.

This year is a little different, due to ongoing global pandemics and other obligations so you will mostly be hearing from Simon tonight, but I’ll be popping in whenever I can too.

That’s right folks, the invitees to the big dance have been announced. Has the Academy finally learned from its past and expanded its focus to be more inclusive for people of colour? Turns out they didn’t! Did they recognize more women in the best director category? Also a no!

I love the Oscars because I am a weirdo and, honestly, this is kind of business as usual. There are a bunch of really awesome artists being recognized, but also there is some pan-fried bullshit going on here, too.

Let’s take a look at the categories and add some pithy commentary.

This week we cover the Hugo Award and Creative Emmy Awards winners, Hailee Steinfeld joins Hawkeye, AppleTV+ launch date and price, Disney+ full launch day roster, a feature length Kung Fury is still happening, Michael Fassbender is working with Taika Waititi, and new movies from Funko Pops (yes, really) and M Night Shyamalan. No word on a collaboration between those two. Yet.

2014 Independent Spirit Awards Winners: 12 Years a Slave is the big winner

The Oscars are tonight but the Independent Spirit Awards were last night. This years biggest winner was _12 Years A Slave_ with five wins including best feature, best director, and best supporting actress. How will this affect the Oscars? Not at all.

86th Oscars Awards Nominations Announced: Gravity and American Hustle Lead The Pack

The Academy Awards Nominations were announced this morning and, unsurprisingly, _American Hustle_ leads the pack with ten nods. Slightly surprisingly, _Gravity_ has the same number of nominations. Also slightly surprisingly, _12 Years a Slave_ has one less with nine. Also unsurprisingly, _The Wolf of Wall Street_ has just five.
