Alright folks it’s finally here: A trailer for The Amazing Spider-Man 2. This is where I’d normally just sigh and say let’s watch but this time around I have to point out that you should maybe not watch this because while it doesn’t really have much in the way of plot details I (and half the internet it seems) are pretty sure that it spoils the end credits scene of the movie (yeah, wtf is that) and at the very least some set up for the already green lit Amazing Spider-Man 3 and 4. Ugh.
Ok, let’s watch.
So this looks like more of the same. I really didn’t like The Amazing Spider-Man when it came out because it was a bad movie for a lot of reasons. This one looks like it’s going to be that again –bad CGI action, good actors with zero chemistry, convoluted conspiracy in the background which should be in this movie but has clearly been pushed back to later movies _after_ this movie was already in production– except with _three_ villains. Three. You never know, Harry Osborne might end up being a good guy fighting against his bad guy father, but that seems unlikely.
Also, did you see what I was talking about with the potential spoilers? There’s a scene of a silhouetted man walking through a secret corridor past what are clearly Doc Ock’s arms and Vulture’s wings. That kind of not so subtle set up for further films isn’t generally the type of thing you see in the middle of a movie these days and it’s definitely not the sort of thing you should see in the trailer for a movie that already has three villains of it’s own.
The takeaway here for me is that while I expect this movie to suck at least Sony seems to have a plan. Lizard in movie 1, Goblin, Rhino, and Electro in movie 2, Doc Ock and Vulture in 3, Sinister 6 in 4.
Hopefully at least one of them turns out to be a decent movie. Ugh.
