It’s been a good year for film because it’s always been a good year for film. I already posted my favourite films of the year but every year there are those films that while they aren’t quite my favourite are definitely great and worth highlighting.
This year I have selected ten more that you should totally seek out and see, presented in alphabetical order.
Look, I know that you’re here for the Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker poster but we also have Doctor Sleep posters, four each from Frozen 2 and Birds of Prey, one hilarious poster for The Lighthouse, Pixar’s latest Onward, along with new sheets for Dolittle, Bombshell, and Disney’s Jungle Cruise.
Robert Eggers has made two movies now. Both with predominantly natural light, both with a confident eye and camera, and period set using actual dialogue from sources contemporary to said setting.
The man has a style, is what I’m saying. But whereas The Witch was a good old fashioned horror movie about a family terrorized by their own inadequacies and also a witch, The Lighthouse is something different altogether. It’s a chronicle of two men descending into madness, tortured by their utter solitude but also each other’s persistent company.
It’s tense, it’s absurd, it features two powerhouse performances, it’s overwhelming, and it’s an absolute must-see.
Look I don’t plan on doing poster roundups that frequently but I do plan to do them because movie posters are awesome. So let’s take a look at the latest one sheets for Terminator: Dark Fate, Midway, Maleficent: Mistress of Evil, Ford v. Ferrari, The Lighthouse, Jojo Rabbit, Blow the Man Down, Little Monsters, Rian Johnson’s whodunnit Knives Out, and Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn).
