Steven Soderbergh’s The Knick – Full Pilot on YouTube

Clive Own in Steven Soderbergh's "The Knick" for Cinemax

Great news!  Cinemax has decided to put the full pilot of The Knick , directed by Steven Soderbergh (Magic Mike, Oceans 11/12/13, Solaris, Traffic) on Youtube. And it’s not even geoblocked!  Haven’t heard of the Knick?  It’s stars Clive Owen and takes place at New York’s Knickerbocker Hospital at the turn of the 20th century.  Which is well before “modern medicine”.  In fact it’s sort of the reason why we have modern medicine at all.  You wouldn’t believe the things they used to do to people.  It’s already been picked up for a second season, so check this out!  Just not with children in the room.  Or while you’re eating.

Oh, and bonus Canadian points as it also stars Edmonton’s own Eric Johnson!

Review: Behind the Candelabra

Behind The Candelabra

It’s a little strange to me that Behind the Candelabra came out on HBO rather than in theatres. It’s a little strange to me that none of the studios in North America have picked the movie up for distribution. It’s a little strange to me that after all the progress we’ve made in the world the story of Liberace is still too gay for America, even though there’s nothing much there that you haven’t already seen in Brokeback Mountain and others.

It’s a shame too because Behind the Candelabra is a great movie, and this way you might not get a chance to see it.

Awesome: Steven Soderbergh on The State of Cinema

Steven Soderbergh

Steven Soderbergh gave an address on the state of cinema at the [San Francisco International Film Festival](http://festival.sffs.org/) and the whole thing is on Sound Cloud to listen to. I recommend you do, whether you have a love of film like I do or not, the man has some interesting things to say on the subject.

I’ve embedded the player and some thoughts after the jump.
