The story of the American space program of the 1960s and 1970s is one of the most well-told stories in recent history. This new adaptation of Tom Wolfe’s The Right Stuff joins 1983s film adaptation, HBO’s 1998 mini-series From The Earth to the Moon, and 2016’s Hidden Figures, and that’s just if we are talking about the Mercury program.
The ground is well-trodden, but it’s a story we keep coming back to because it’s a story of achievement and a time when the country banded together behind a common cause for the public good. Sure, that goal was beating the Soviets, but the implications of the space program are so far-reaching that maybe that doesn’t even matter. Because the ground is so well-trodden though, each return to it must bring something new whether it’s the visual jazz of First Man or the behind the scenes story of Hidden Figures, something new or extra needs to be brought each time.
Herein lies the issue with this new version of The Right Stuff. It’s not bad, but it doesn’t bring anything new to the table.

The next phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is set to include, as of this writing, 7 TV series on Disney+ in addition to the six currently announced films. The “Cinematic Universe” is officially more of a “mixed media universe.” Remember when part of the appeal of the films was that they made the impenetrable web of comic book continuity accessible again to new fans? That feels like it’s nearly over.
Anyway, the first of the Disney+ series to hit the service is going to be WandaVision, in which Scarlet Witch seems to be living out a 50s TV fantasy life with Vision. Only one issue: Vision is dead. So what is going on? Let’s take a look!

Review: ‘Mulan’ is a mixed bag
Mulan should have been a slam dunk for Disney. A remake of a well-loved 1990s animated classic, it features a cast of both rising and legendary Chinese and Chinese-American stars, a director with a solid track record in Niki Caro, not to mention the bank account of the House of Mouse behind it.
The film, released this weekend straight to Disney+ because of, you know, the plague, is certainly a gorgeous one. It’s also well-acted and adds some new elements to the story, but ultimately is held back by some baffling editing choices.
