One of the cooler things at this years Academy Awards wasn’t anything that happened on stage, it was on the monitors as nominees were announced. Sounds silly but each nominee had an amazingly designed title card for each category. They were created by Mill+, the firm which has been doing design work for the show for the past few years.
I’ve included some of my favourites (including the Best Screenplay Card for Blue Jasmine above).
The Oscars are tomorrow! We’ll be live blogging them for the third year running and last year it was fun to have my thoughts out there ahead of time, so I’m going to lock myself into a few predictions again.
The Academy Awards Nominations were announced this morning and, unsurprisingly, American Hustle leads the pack with ten nods. Slightly surprisingly, Gravity has the same number of nominations. Also slightly surprisingly, 12 Years a Slave has one less with nine. Also unsurprisingly, The Wolf of Wall Street has just five.

American Hustle looks like it might be another smash hit from director David O. Russell, he of Silver Linings Playbook and The Fighter fame. You’ve already seen a trailer for the abscam thriller and now you can get a closer look at the characters.
David O Russell has made some great films and it looks like he’s basically asked everyone who’s been nominated for an Oscar in his last few to come back and be in his new one, American Hustle. The film is a fictionalization of the ABSCAM FBI sting of the 1970s starring Christian Bale, Amy Adams, Jennifer Lawrence, Bradley Cooper and Jeremy Renner. That cast alone is enough to get my butt in a seat, but there’s a trailer now too so let’s check that out.
