American Hustle Trailer has Bigger Balls Than You

American Hustle

David O Russell has made some great films and it looks like he’s basically asked everyone who’s been nominated for an Oscar in his last few to come back and be in his new one, American Hustle. The film is a fictionalization of the ABSCAM FBI sting of the 1970s starring Christian Bale, Amy Adams, Jennifer Lawrence, Bradley Cooper and Jeremy Renner. That cast alone is enough to get my butt in a seat, but there’s a trailer now too so let’s check that out.

Review: Elysium

Elysium

Neill Blompkamp burst on the scene a few years back with District 9, a movie fresh new SciFi action film concerning a group of displaced aliens living in a massive ghetto in Johannesburg South Africa. The film was born out of Blompkamp and Peter Jackson’s attempts to put together a _Halo_ movie and when that fell apart those resources when to expanding Blompkamp’s short film _Alive in Joburg_ into a full fledged movie. The result was a fantastic film with an original approach, story, characters and clear allegory to social and political issues facing us today. I’m not going to spoil it, just go watch it.

I mention this because the follow up, _Elysium_, is another SciFi action film with an interesting and unique approach and some clear allegories to social and political issues of our time. So how does it stack up? Not bad, actually.

Awesome: Bruce Willis Out Of Expendables 3 But Harrison Ford Is In!

ford1

Yippie-ki-yay, mother lover. Sylvester Stallone confirmed today ([via Twitter](https://twitter.com/TheSlyStallone/status/364831174075486208), of course) that Bruce Willis is being exchanged wholesale for Harrison Ford in the upcoming *Expendables 3*. According to further tweets, there’s quite a spat forming between Stallone and Willis, with the former calling the latter “greedy and lazy”. Fighting talk indeed.

Review: Attack Of The Friday Monsters! A Tokyo Tale (3DS)

Attack-of-the-Friday-Monsters-A-Tokyo-Tale

This game make me sad for so many reasons. Not because it’s bad – it’s really, really not – but more because it’s a real shame that so few people are going to experience a title that is one of the sweetest, most wonderful slices of gaming that I’ve experienced in a long time. I’ve seen so many dissenting voices on gaming forums immediate discount it – too short, too expensive, not actiony enough, too twee. I nearly passed it by myself, the filter of public opinion almost too persuasive to ignore, especially when gaming time is at such a premium. Also, eight dollars? I could buy a pint (plus tax plus tip) of terrible Canadian beer for that. The App Store dollar standard has certainly moved the download yardsticks. How ridiculous.

Review: The Wolverine

The Wolverine

Outside of the Marvel Cinematic Universe the X-Men universe maintained by 20th Century Fox is tied for longest, and is probably the next best in terms of continuity, but over all the films have been incredibly hit or miss. We’ve had two truly great movies in _X-Men: First Class_ and _X2: X-Men United_, a good movie in _X-Men_ and two pretty terrible films in _X-Men 3: the Last Stand_ and _X-Men Origins: Wolverine_.

So how does the latest entry stack up? Pretty good actually. Or mostly, anyway.

47 Ronin Trailer (And Posters) Looks Like 300 In Feudal Japan’s CGI Period

47 Ronin

Did you know that Keanu Reeves was working on an adaptation of the famous legend of the 47 Ronin? This is the part where I’d tell you the legend but doing so would spoil the end so I won’t. [Google it why don’t you](http://lmgtfy.com/?q=the+forty+seven+ronin).

Anyway, the movie has a trailer and some character posters and to be perfectly honest? I’m not sure what to make of it. Let’s watch!

Putting Batman in a Superman Movie Is Kind Of Bullshit

Superman + Batman

As you’ve probably heard by now: at San Diego Comic Con last week it was announced that [Zack Snyder’s follow up to _Man of Steel_ is going to be Superman vs. Batman](https://awesomefriday.ca/2013/07/awesome-batman-vs-superman-is-happening/). They got Harry Lennix out on stage to read the last few lines from the Superman vs. Batman fight in _The Dark Knight Returns_ and the crowd went crazy and the internet followed suit.

But you know what? I think this is a dumb idea and here are some reasons why.
