Last week was my first Whoing, if you missed it I wrote all about it here. I figured that would give me a bit of a base for this week in my second spin around the T.A.R.D.I.S. Of course it didn’t. Here’s how it went… (SPOILER ALERT! SPOILER ALERT!) Continue reading “Doctor Who Episode 2: Robotic Bugaboo”
Legends – Series Premiere Tonight on Bravo (Canada)
Sean Bean, Ali Larter, Tina Majorino star in the new drama series Legends that premieres in Canada on Bravo tonight at 9pm. Based on the novel Legends: A Novel of Dissimulation by Robert Littell for which he won the LA Times Book Prize in 2005. Developed by Howard Gordon (24, Homeland), Jeffrey Nachmanoff (The Day After Tomorrow, Traitor, The Tourist) & Mark Bomback (Live Free or Die Hard, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, Fifty Shades of Grey). A real mixed bag of experience, should be interesting.
Also on Bravo the 2nd season of Graceland is coming to a close. If you haven’t seen this show yet it’s something that would make a great end of summer binge-watch.
The Legend of Korra: Book 3 Season Finale
Book 3 finished off on such an emotional rollercoaster that it has taken me a few days to figure out what to say about it. Even now that some time has passed, I’m still at a loss for words. My recap and thoughts can be found after the jump…

Doctor Who Does What? In The Where? Or Is It When?
I’ve always assumed I was a nerd, but lately I’ve been finding out that might not be the case. I don’t mean “nerd” in a bad way or even “nerd” in the now we’re cool let’s put it on a t-shirt way. More in the “Ooh, that’s a bit more curious than most people would be and hey are these books sorted by literary period?” kind of way. There doesn’t seem to be a Broad-Spectrum-of-Interests-in-a-Variety-of-Things Con. Likely because it would make a terrible acronym. Continue reading “Doctor Who Does What? In The Where? Or Is It When?”
Parks and Recreation Season 6 Gag Reel: A Full Head of Teeth
Parks and Recreation will be back for a 7th season. At some point. Eventually. You promised, NBC, we’re holding you to it. Until then enjoy this season 6 blooper reel in which Jim acts a lot like Jerry/Gary/Larry in real life.
The Legend of Korra – Episodes 3.10 & 3.11
Book 3 is flying by, and we’re fast approaching the end — the two-part season finale will air on Friday, August 22nd! My recap and thoughts on episodes 3.10 and 3.11 are after the jump.

Play It Again, Dick
A long time ago we used to be friends… and then after 3 seasons Veronica Mars got cancelled. Apparently 2007 wasn’t ready for a neo-noir CW drama. For years fans of the series campaigned for a movie and when creator Rob Thomas and star Kristen Bell launched a kickstarter in 2013 they broke records. They raised their goal of $2 Million in 10 hours, and went on to raise $5.7 Million total.
Someone at the CW noticed that the Marshmallows are a force to be reckoned with. Which is why they’re launching a CW Seed web series! Continue reading “Play It Again, Dick”
Steven Soderbergh’s The Knick – Full Pilot on YouTube
Great news! Cinemax has decided to put the full pilot of The Knick , directed by Steven Soderbergh (Magic Mike, Oceans 11/12/13, Solaris, Traffic) on Youtube. And it’s not even geoblocked! Haven’t heard of the Knick? It’s stars Clive Owen and takes place at New York’s Knickerbocker Hospital at the turn of the 20th century. Which is well before “modern medicine”. In fact it’s sort of the reason why we have modern medicine at all. You wouldn’t believe the things they used to do to people. It’s already been picked up for a second season, so check this out! Just not with children in the room. Or while you’re eating.
Oh, and bonus Canadian points as it also stars Edmonton’s own Eric Johnson!
Reality Confessions – Zach, Frankie, Big Brother, Social Media Narcissism & The Present Age
I need to come clean about something… I watch Big Brother. Both the US & Canadian ones. It’s my reality TV drug of choice. And what went down last night is exactly why. For 2 hours drama unfolded that if all the camera feeds were edited together could make an excellent documentary on narcissism in the social media age.
The Legend of Korra – Episode 3.09
The Legend of Korra has a habit of dropping truth bombs halfway through a season, and given the not-so-surprising traitor reveal in episode 8, I expected we’d be seeing more twists right about now. I wasn’t disappointed. What was surprising was the way the truths were revealed — for the first time, Korra has a chance to sit down with the villain and ask him his goals, and he actively answers her questions not in a stereotypically maniacal monologuing kind of way, not in a bid to convince her to switch allegiances, but as a strategic tactic to buy himself time. I like this Zaheer fellow.
The episode summary and more of my thoughts are after the jump. Beware of spoilers! This episode had some big reveals.
Reddit AMA with Anson Mount Today

Hell on Wheels, a western shot in Calgary, in which Mount plays Cullen Bohannan returns August 2nd to AMC. He also has a horror film currently in post-production called Visions starring alongside Isla Fisher, Jim Parsons, Gillian Jacobs & Eva Longoria.

“A little lower Boone”
Start the countdown, 4o days to the beginning of the end of Sons of Anarchy. If you haven’t watched it I suggest you spend those days catching the fuck up.
Charlie Hunnam couldn’t make it to Comic-Con this year but he sent along this little gem instead. I love the camaraderie the SOA cast has shown for so many years. Despite all the crazy gruesome things Kurt Sutter puts them through on the page they seem to have a lot of fun at work. Also if you’re looking for some insights into his process WTF Sutter is great.
Kingdom – Coming This Fall
The first trailer for Kingdom (previously Navy St.) is here, and it delivers. So much so that I can ignore the fact that it uses this year’s trailer music of choice “Jungle” by X Ambassadors, Jamie N Commons. No word yet on when (or if) it will be airing in Canada, as it’s being produced specifically for DIRECTV. I’m predicting it’s a massive hit for Jonathan Tucker & Matt Lauria. Fingers crossed that it finds its way North.
The Legend of Korra – Episode 3.08 and Other News
“Change” has turned out to be an apt name for this season. At Comic-Con, Nick announced that the show would be pulled from the network after episode 3.08; the remainder of the series will be airing on various digital sources, including Nickelodeon.com, at a weekly cadence on Fridays at 12:00 PM EST.
I’ll ramble about this move in a bit, but first, it’s time for an episode recap and a few theories! Continue reading “The Legend of Korra – Episode 3.08 and Other News”
FXX – You’re the Worst.
In 2011 the FX network launched in Canada. Finally we were brought amazing shows like Sons of Anarchy and Wilfred. Sure, they broadcast a few seasons off because current season rights are with others like Super Channel. And of course shows that started prior to 2011 that had deals with other networks (Justified, It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia) aren’t on it. But it was a start.
Which is fantastic because FX has had some of the most genius and underrated shows around. Would any other network have a show about a stoner lawyer who almost kills himself in the pilot only to meet his neighbour’s dog. That is a dog to everyone else, and a human in a dog costume (with an Australian accent) to him. That show, if you haven’t seen it, is Wilfred. It’s dark. And a surreal masterpiece of comedy.
FX takes risks. It lets shows go into deep dark places. The collective of people who tell stories on FX are artists, a word seldom used when talking about television. Continue reading “FXX – You’re the Worst.”
