New XBOX to be Announced 21st May

New XBOX

Soooooooo this is a thing that’s happening. Given how underwhelming the PS4 announcement was, and also considering the rumours of things like it not being backwards compatible and always needs to be online I can’t say that I am too terribly excited.

Which is a shame because I’d like to be excited. I like my XBOX 360, but if it turns out that Microsoft is selling a replacement instead of an upgrade I’ll probably go back to PC gaming and never look back.

Well, maybe not never.

Awesome: Marvel Confirms Daredevil Rights Now Back In The Fold

20130423-120815.jpg

[According to Newsarama](http://www.newsarama.com/film/kevin-feige-daredevil-marvel-studios.html):

> Speaking with Newsarama Monday at the Iron Man 3 press junket, the Marvel Studios president of production told us at the end of our conversation that, as previously speculated, the Daredevil rights are now under the Disney/Marvel umbrella. We directly asked Feige if the reports that Marvel Studios now had the rights to Daredevil were accurate, to which he replied, “To Daredevil? Yes.”

> In August, it was reported that previous rights-holder Fox had a deadline of Oct. 10 to put a Daredevil film into production before the rights returned to Marvel, a deadline that then passed. Though it was widely assumed this meant the character was now under Marvel control, no official announcement followed.

I know some of you only have experience with Daredevil by way of the 2003 movie, which a lot of people don’t like, but the character is great. Think Batman, but without the money and with actual super powers.

So I chalk this up as a good thing. The question now is, what are they going to do with him?

Not Awesome: Futurama To End Again in Sept

Fry + Bender

Dan Snierson for [Entertainment Weekly](http://insidetv.ew.com/2013/04/22/futurama-not-renewed-comedy-central/)

> The Planet Express ship will soon make its final delivery.

> Comedy Central has decided not to renew Futurama, which means that the 31st-century-set animated comedy will end its 140-episode run on Sept. 4. The final 13 episodes, which represent the second half of season 7, begin airing on June 19 at 10 p.m.

> Futurama is no stranger to cancellation, of course: The series aired from 1999 to 2003 before Fox sent Fry & Co. into oblivion. After thriving in reruns on Adult Swim, Futurama was relaunched in 2007 with four-direct-to-DVD movies that Comedy Central ran in half-hour increments as a 16-episode fifth season in 2008-09. Comedy Central subsequently ordered a sixth season of 26 episodes, which aired in 2010-11, and a seventh season of 26 episodes, the first half of which debuted in 2012.

> The news did not come as a shock to executive producer David X. Cohen and creator Matt Groening, who had thought their space explorations were ending three previous times (after the Fox run, after the four movies, and after Comedy Central’s first 26-episode order). “I felt like we were already in the bonus round on these last couple of seasons, so I can’t say I was devastated by the news,” Cohen tells EW. “It was what I had expected two years earlier. At this point I keep a suitcase by my office door so I can be cancelled at a moment’s notice.”

This is sad news for one of my all time favourite shows, however as David X Cohen said it’s not entirely unexpected. I’m sure they’ll go out on some amazing gag though so there is that to look forward to. Not to mention endless re-watching on Netflix.

Fan Expo Bonus: Nichelle Nichols Talks About The Interracial Kiss

There are more photos coming later tonight but as a quick bonus to tide you over, I took some video with my phone at the Nichelle Nichols Q&A. The quality isn’t amazing, but this is a clip of her telling the story about the first interracial kiss on television between Uhura and Kirk.

It’s a pretty cool story so I thought I would share it. I wish I could share her whole Q&A session, she was a blast to listen to. Funny and sassy and clearly at ease, and we all loved her for it. Hit the jump for a very poorly shot video.

Review: Oblivion

Oblivion

Do you ever read or watch science fiction? Have you ever had your mind blown at some plot twist or big reveal? Has a story ever made you think about things in this world in a new and different way?

Oblivion is a film that really wants to have this kind of impact on you but doesn’t. That’s not to say that it’s a bad movie just that while it is _good_, or rather _pretty okay_, it isn’t _great_.

FanExpo Vancouver Cosplay Photos

Today at Fan Expo I spent a great deal of time walking around with my friend and talented photographer Mark. Together we took a boat load of cosplay photos. Well, to be fair, he took all the photos and I helped wrangle people. But either way let’s face it: there’s lots of cool things going on at FanExpo (Simon [already posted some photos and his take on the day](https://awesomefriday.ca/2013/04/fan-expo-vancouver-day-one/)
) but the cosplay is what you want to see photos of. There’s nearly 50 photos after the jump so get comfy!

Here’s a beautiful Lara Croft to get you started, the rest are after the jump.

Two New Trailers for Only God Forgives Make Kristin Scott Thomas Look Scary

Only God Forgives

There are two new trailers for Nicolas Winding Refn’s upcoming Only God Forgives. Both of them are international, both of them are NSFW due to language and violence and nakedness, both of them tell us a little more plot and both of them make Kristin Scott Thomas looks _fucking scary_.

Holy Shit: Disney Announces A New Star Wars EVERY YEAR Starting with Episode VII

Disney Star Wars

In case you were wondering if Disney was going to beat the horse until it died and then keep on beating it some more, here’s [Adam Chitwood writing for Collider](http://collider.com/star-wars-movies-every-year-2015-disney/):

> Get ready for a whole lot of Star Wars, folks. Disney took the stage today for its presentation at CinemaCon—a convention for theater owners—in Las Vegas, and the studio made the bold announcement that it is planning on releasing a new Star Wars film into theaters every summer starting with 2015’s Star Wars: Episode VII. The studio will alternate every other year with an “Episode” film and a standalone film, and based on previous rumors there certainly won’t be a lack of characters for them to mine.

It’s strange, Disney has Marvel pumping out 2 movies a year now and I am not really worried about the quality of them. Disney says they’re going tp pump out a new Star Wars film every year and I get all worried.

This is likely because I can’t seem to forget how bad the new trilogy of movies was, or remember that a lot of the rest of new Star Wars stuff (eg: The Clone Wars series) has been pretty good.

No matter how it turns out though, this is officially a thing that is happening. Any thoughts guys?

Awesome: Stanley Tucci joins Transformers 4

Stanley Tucci

Good news everyone!

[Angie Han writing for Slashfilm](http://www.slashfilm.com/stanley-tucci-joins-transformers-4/)

> The 3D IMAX camera wasn’t the only new addition to Transformers 4 announced at CinemaCon yesterday. Michael Bay also revealed that Stanley Tucci had boarded the cast, joining Mark Wahlberg, Nicola Peltz, and Jack Reynor.

> Character details have been kept under wraps, but an earlier report suggested that the film could center around a young woman, her dad, and her racecar driver boyfriend. Peltz, Wahlberg, and Reynor seem to fit those descriptions, but it’s harder to say how Tucci fits in.

I’m holding out basically zero hope that Transformers 4 will be any good, but adding Tucci to any movie is a welcome bit of news. Him and Wahlberg both know how to be fun to watch, so maybe this one will turn out better than the last three.

Not that that’ll be hard….
