‘Peacemaker’, a ‘The Suicide Squad’ spinoff series coming to HBO Max

James Gunn’s upcoming The Suicide Squad isn’t even out yet and it already has a spinoff TV series.

According to Variety HBO Max has ordered an 8 episode series based on John Cena’s character Peacemaker fro the forthcoming The Suicide Squad. Described as a douchebag Captain America, Peacemaker is committed to the ideals of peace but also kills at the slightest provocation to achieve it.

John Cena is sett o reprise the role and James Gunn is set to write the series and direct multiple episodes.

Warner Brothers seems to be putting their own spin on comic book movies and TV, just making movies based on their characters and not really worrying about the connective tissue anymore. Their movies have gotten a lot better since they made that choice, and I hope this extends to the TV series they are developing as well.

HBO Max already has a series based on Gotham PD in the works to tie into Matt Reeves The Batman, also.

Peacemaker is set to start production in 2021, with The Suicide Squad currently scheduled for theatrical release in August 2021.

For those of us in Canada, HBO Max originals head straight to Crave, so look for it there when it debuts.

John Cena and James Gunn both announced the series, on Twitter and Instagram respectively.
