Awesome News: Catch Up Edition #2

Still playing catchup on the news as real-life continues to suck up all my free time. Here’s some Robocop news, some ill-advised biopic news, some invisible news, and some batman news. All good things!

There’s a new ‘Robocop’ movie coming and Abe Forsythe is directing

What’s that? You haven’t heard of Abe Forsythe? Then you’re probably not alone. He directed Lupita Nyong’o in a film for Hulu this year called Little Monsters and has directed a bunch of TV in Australia, but that’s kind of it. It’s basically tradition in Hollywood to hire a new director for big projects because lots of the effects and action will be directed by 2nd units anyway, and because new directors who have never directed a huge tentpole are cheaper, and easier to throw under the bus if things go south.

Also, yeah, another Robocop movie. They keep making them. It might be good. You can make a good movie out of anything. Too bad they haven’t really done that with a Robocop sequel to date.

The people who made ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ are making a Michael Jackson movie.

On the one hand, there’s a hell of a movie to be made here. On the other hand, they have secured the rights to Jackson’s music from his estate which means we probably won’t get that movie. Hell, I’m sure we won’t get that movie because I’ve seen Bohemian Rhapsody and know how many details they got wrong in that story.

While it’s said they don’t intend to sanitize the story, the Jackson estate also sued the people who made Leaving Neverland for $100 million.

No matter what happens, if the movie happens it’s going to be controversial and divisive.

They’re remaking ‘The Fugitive’ as well

Albert Hughes (1/2 of the Hughes Brothers, who directed The Book of Eli). has been tapped to remake this beloved 90s classic (which itself was an adaptation of a 60s TV series) and quote "put a new spin on it".

Sure, why not. Honestly, a version of the story set now with all the tech in the world working against Doctor Kimblec could be pretty great. Will it approach the level of awesomeness that is the ’93 version? Who knows! But a good movie can be made out of anything.

Elizabeth Banks to direct & star in an ‘Invisible Woman’ movie

Universal seems committed to the Invisible People franchise. This one will not cross over with the Invisbile Man film that is already being advertised.

Elizabeth Banks seems to be making a move behind the camera, just coming off her Charlie’s Angels reboot (that I haven’t seen yet) and Pitch Perfect 2.

There are no plot details or anything to report just yet, but we’ll keep you in the loop.

John Turturro has joined the cast of ‘The Batman’

And he’s playing mob boss Carmine Falcone. Turturro joining the film ensures that it can’t be all bad, but given the cast of thousands of talented people he is joining this film is headed towards being something pretty special if only so you can see all of them together.

Peter Sarsgaard has joined ‘The Batman’ also

Just when you thought they were done adding great actors to The Batman they went ahead and added Peter Sarsgaard. We have no idea who he’s playing yet but rumour has it he might be Harvey Dent.

The cast list on this thing is absolutely amazing at this point, with Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne/Batman, Zoƫ Kravitz as Selina Kyle/Catwoman, Jeffrey Wright as Comissioner Jim Gordon, Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, Paul Dano as The Riddler, and Colin Farrel as The Penguin.

There’s no word about plot details or anything but director Matt Reeves has a solid track record so we’re hopeful.
