Awesome News: Jordan Peele is making more movies, Martin Scorsese has opinions about movies, Tom Holland maybe saved a movie, and more.

There wasn’t a ton of news I found totally interesting this week but Jordan Peele making more movies and Martin Scorsese having opinions about movies are certainly interesting tidbits. Let’s take a look.

Jordan Peele is making at least two more movies for Universal

Jordan Peele is on a hell of a run lately with both Get Out and Us being huge critical and financial hits. Now he’s signed a deal with Universal to make at least two more movies for them which he will write, produce, and direct.

This is excellent news. He’s two for two with movies right now, plus The Twilight Zone is excellent. I can’t wait for this guy to keep telling stories.

Death on the Nile Cast Revealed as Filming Starts

I don’t know how many of you saw Kenneth Branagh’s take on Murder on the Orient Express but I’m glad that enough of you did that we’re getting a sequel. I basically hope that Branagh keeps adapting Agatha Christie novels forever now. I kind of love the mid-tier, star studded mystery film and I think we need more of them in the world.

Death on the Nile has just started filming and the cast has been revealed and it is indeed star studded. I cannot wait for 9th October 2020.

Martin Scorsese has opinions about Marvel movies (and that’s ok)

Let’s just get this out of the way, here’s Mr. Scorsese speaking with Empire:

“I don’t see them. I tried, you know? But that’s not cinema,” Scorsese told Empire. “Honestly, the closest I can think of them, as well made as they are, with actors doing the best they can under the circumstances, is theme parks. It isn’t the cinema of human beings trying to convey emotional, psychological experiences to another human being.”

The internet is, naturally, worked itself into a furor over this but here’s my take: they’re not for him, and that’s fine. Not everything has to be for everyone.

Tom Holland apparently helped save the Marvel/Sony deal

Remember last week when the Sony-Marvel-Spider-Man deal was saved, turns out Tom Holland had a hand in that.

But in true Peter Parker-underdog fashion, an unlikely hero emerged to reconcile the two warring factions less than six weeks later: Holland himself. Sources say the star, 23, made multiple appeals to Disney chairman and CEO Bob Iger and Sony film chairman Tom Rothman to reach a resolution, announced Sept. 27, for Marvel to produce a third Spider-Man movie for Sony, and for the character to appear in at least one additional Disney-Marvel film.

I do kind of wonder if Holland had any real impact. On the one hand they may have been waiting out social media pressure on the deal. On the other, maybe we they were at loggerheads and they needed this kid to wake them up to all the money that could be made.

Either way, it’s an interesting anecdote.
