Latest Posters Gallery: Terminator, Midway, Maleficent, Knives Out, and more!

Look I don’t plan on doing poster roundups that frequently but I do plan to do them because movie posters are awesome. So let’s take a look at the latest one sheets for Terminator: Dark Fate, Midway, Maleficent: Mistress of Evil, Ford v. Ferrari, The Lighthouse, Jojo Rabbit, Blow the Man Down, Little Monsters, Rian Johnson’s whodunnit Knives Out, and Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn).

Terminator: Dark Fate

These are fine, I guess? I have zero expectations about the film and these posters neither help nor hinder those expectations. Maybe that’s as good as I can hope for at this point?

Midway Character Sheets

Here are the character sheets for (I think) the entire cast of thousands of Midway. Sure there is some unproven talent, but there’s also a ton of really exciting performers. Look I can’t help but be a little excited about this one.

Maleficent: Mistress of Evil IMAX & 3D Posters

I don’t know that Maleficent needed a sequel but here we are, and the people involved are good so here’s hoping it’s good. Note: I liked Maleficent. Either way, these two posters as good, in particular the RealD 3D one.

Ford v. Ferrari

Ford v. Ferrari is presently making the festival rounds and I, for one, and very hopeful about it. I’ll be seeing it at VIFF in a few weeks. This poster isn’t amazing though. It’s not bad either. It’s just fine.

The Lighthouse and Jojo Rabbit

Jojo Rabbit‘s poster isn’t amazing, but the one sheet for The Lighthouse is incredibly striking. Both of these are getting good reviews at the festivals they’ve already played, and I’m looking forward to seeing The Lighthouse at VIFF.

Blow the Man Down

I haven’t heard anything at all about Blow the Man Down but it’s playing at TIFF right now and Margot Martindale is in it so colour me optimistic. Plus, this is a cool poster. I dig it.

Little Monsters

Two of these posters are ok, and the Lupita Nyong’o one is kind of great. Still no word on a Canadian release for the movie, but I’ll be sure to keep an eye out for you.

Knives Out Character Sheets

Look we’re really excited about the prospect of a Rian Johnson scripted whodunnit. He debuted these character sheets on Twitter, introducing them thusly:

I’ve added each of his Christie-esque breakdowns to the captions. Click to see them bigger (and the captions).

Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn)

Birds of Prey

Last but not least, feast your eyes on this gloriously colourful poster for the Margot Robbie starring Birds of Prey. Also starring Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Jurnee Smollett-Bell, Rosie Perez, Chris Messina, Ella Jay Basco, and Ewan McGregor, Bird of Prey follows Harley Quinn joining a team of female anti-heroes to take down a bad guy in Gotham City. The bad guy is Black Mask, for the record, played by Mr. McGregor.

I kind of love this poster. Look how bright and colourful and ridiculous it is. The DCEU films have been of … varied, we’ll say varied quality since their inception but since they started moving away from the grim and gritty aesthetic of Man of Steel and Batman v Superman and started moving toward the bright colourful weirdness of Wonder Woman, Aquaman, and Shazam! I’ve been really enjoying them. I’m not familiar with director Cathy Yan’s other work but this looks like more bright colourful weirdness so I’m hopeful. I’m sure that DC Bros across the internet are also thrilled.

Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn), which is a mouthful, is scheduled for release 7th February 2020 so I imagine we’ll get a trailer soon.
