Peyton Reed Is The New Director of Ant-Man; Adam McKay Joins As Writer

Peyton Reed

No, I’m not going to do a joke about the director of _Yes Man_ being brought onto be Marvel’s Yes Man.

[Marvel](http://marvel.com/news/movies/2014/6/7/22643/director_peyton_reed_and_writer_adam_mckay_join_marvels_ant-man):

> When Marvel’s “Ant-Man” hits theaters July 17, 2015, director Peyton Reed will help shepherd the hero into the Marvel Cinematic Universe with a cast led by Paul Rudd and Michael Douglas, with writer Adam McKay contributing to the film’s script.

> Armed with the astonishing ability to shrink in scale but increase in strength, con-man Scott Lang (Rudd) must embrace his inner-hero and help his mentor, Dr. Hank Pym (Douglas), protect the secret behind his spectacular Ant-Man suit from a new generation of towering threats. Against seemingly insurmountable obstacles, Pym and Lang must plan and pull off a heist that will save the world.

So Reed is directing and McKay is retooling the script. It’s good the movie has a director now so it can move forward. I’m actually a little happy that Adam McKay is on board to help with the script as the re-write Marvel has their in-house writers do was apparently completely awful and McKay isn’t a bad writer. He was actually approached to direct (along with every director in Hollywood it would seem) but passed.

I’m still disappointed we’re not going to see Edgar Wright’s Ant-Man but this whole episode has really driven home how much Marvel Studios is producer driven.

At the end of the day I do hope that the finished product is good enough that it won’t be completely overshadowed by the “what if” discussion but only time will tell if that’s the case.

Ant-Man is still slated for a July release next year.
