Awesome: X-Men: Days of Future Past ’25 Moments’ Viral Marketing Site Is Actually Pretty Cool

X-Men 25 Moments

Yes, I’m slightly behind in linking this up, but it’s still pretty cool. Is the movie going to be any good, though?

The site is called “25 Moments”, and it recounts 25 pivotal moments in human/mutant relations starting from the Cuban Missle Crisis incident in First Class. It’s a clever idea which has been well executed, inserting mutants into grainy photos and tweaking world events. Here are a few of my favourite images from the site:

X-Men 25 Moments 1963

1963, Kennedy Assassination

X-Men 25 Moments 1965

1965, X-Mansion Opens

X-Men 25 Moments 1977

1977, World Record Scandal

X-Men 25 Moments 1986

1986, Chernoble

X-Men 25 Moments 1991

1991, Apartheid

But given all this, I have questions. The idea floating around the rumour mill is that Days of Future Past will erase the original X-Men Trilogy continuity so that the First Class characters can continue, but basically, everything in this viral site is stuff we basically know didn’t happen, or at least we should know did happen, right? As in, the First Class universe isn’t all sunshine and rainbows; it seems to go precisely how Magneto feared it would.

So then, does the movie mutate (SEE WHAT I DID THERE) that timeline into the original trilogy timeline then? Because that would be… interesting. I don’t know for sure, but what I can tell you is that I have less and less faith that this movie will be actually good. It might be fun, but I don’t think it will be good.

There was an action sequence debuted at the MTV Movie Awards tonight; once it’s available in Canada, I might have some commentary, but suffice it to say that while it has some redeeming features (Ice Man on an ice slide! Sunspot looking perfect!) it also has some problematic ones (everyone wearing hard to distinguish black costumes, Bishop using his power to charge a gun? what?).

X-Men: Days of Future Past_ will be released on 23rd May. In the meantime, check out the rest of the new viral site here: 25 Moments.
