The Problem With Bored Ghostbusters

There’s a new Ghostbusters movie incoming, one that fills the boots of the titular paranormal exterminators with female ankles and has Bridesmaids and Spy director Paul Feig using his comedy experience to bring it all together. None of this is a problem, of course – anyone who declares that a female-led Ghostbusters won’t work is an idiot – but there could be a tonal issue with the reboot’s approach. The first cast picture from set shows Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones in uniform, lined up, looking bored.

And that could be a problem.

Something for the Weekend: How To Train Your Dragon

How To Train Your Dragon

Two weeks hence will see the release of the sequel to one of my favourite animated movies so naturally this would be a good weekend to pick up a copy of one of my favourite animated movies.

Released in 2010 How To Train Your Dragon is one of the best “boy and his dog” movies that I’ve ever seen. Except the dog happens to be a dragon. And the dragon generally acts like a cat. Hiccup and Toothless become a symbiotic pair and eventually change the world with their friendship. It’s a great movie featuring a great performance from Jay Baruchel, and a fantastic score.

It was nominated for two Oscars (losing Best Animated Feature to Toy Story 3 and Best Score to The Social Network) and won ten Annie Awards including Best Feature.

With a sequel about to be released now is the perfect time to refresh your memory. You can use the links below to buy your copy and help us keep the lights on.

Thanks and enjoy your weekend!

Anchorman 2

There was so much material left on the floor during the editing of Anchorman 2 that they have actually released a second version of the movie with basically every joke replaced with an alternate take. Also, a boat load of bloopers, some of which can be seen here. Let’s watch!

Review: Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues

Anchorman 2

Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy was released in 2004 and, very generally, people I know tend to either love it or hate it. I fell pretty squarely in the “love it camp but in reflection I could have easily gone the other way. You see Anchorman was originally going to have a lot more going on. In fact there were so many different takes and removed sub plots that they were eventually assembled into a whole other film titled “Wake Up, Ron Burgundy: The Lost Movie“.

Most of Wake Up isn’t good and it’s easy to see why none of it was included in Anchorman.

I am telling you all of this because I really feel like Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues could really have done with a bunch of stuff cut out.

The Secret Life of Walter Mitty

Ben Stiller has adapted James Thurber’s The Secret Life of Walter Mitty into a movie. In the story Mitty escapes his mundane life by constantly fantasizing. Looks like that’s going to happen here too, along with Mitty getting a real life.

Let’s watch.
