How To Train Your Dragon

Two weeks hence will see the release of the sequel to one of my favourite animated movies so naturally this would be a good weekend to pick up a copy of one of my favourite animated movies.

Released in 2010 How To Train Your Dragon is one of the best “boy and his dog” movies that I’ve ever seen. Except the dog happens to be a dragon. And the dragon generally acts like a cat. Hiccup and Toothless become a symbiotic pair and eventually change the world with their friendship. It’s a great movie featuring a great performance from Jay Baruchel, and a fantastic score.

It was nominated for two Oscars (losing Best Animated Feature to Toy Story 3 and Best Score to The Social Network) and won ten Annie Awards including Best Feature.

With a sequel about to be released now is the perfect time to refresh your memory. You can use the links below to buy your copy and help us keep the lights on.

Thanks and enjoy your weekend!

Kick-Ass 2

2010’s Kick-ass was a movie not without problems, but what problems it had were easy to forget because it was actually fun. It melded over the top violence and profanity with an upbeat and optimistic “holy shit we’re superheroes” tone which gave the movie a unique energy, and a couple of brilliant casting moves made the whole endeavor…. well fun really is the operative word here.

It’s 3 years later both in our world and theirs and Kick-Ass 2 is here and you know what? It holds up pretty well!

Matt Watches Bad Movies: Movie 43

Movie 43

So I decided to start watching bad movies again and I figured a good place to start would be with a recent movie which had a funny as hell trailer but turned out to be pretty much the worst thing in the world. The films tagline is “once you’ve seen it you can’t unsee it” and it’s true, just not in the way they intended.

Kick-Ass 2

Even as a life long fan of comics 2010’s Kick-Ass surprised me. I left that theatre with a big ol’ grin on my face because the movie was such a good time. Now Kick-Ass 2 is coming.

A couple of things strike me:

  • Wow, Jim Carrey doesn’t look like Jim Carrey. I like it.
  • The tone seems to be intact, but I’m dubious with the directorial change
  • Chloe Moretz does not look 15 anymore.

And here’s a new poster. Huzzah!
