Fly Through Every WipEout Track In Your Browser

WipEout

The first WipEout was solely responsible for elevating Sony’s first PlayStation from potentially being just another kiddy toy to a genuinely cool piece of kit. The pulsing soundtrack and revolutionary 3D courses marked the start of many lifelong gaming obsessions, curves and accelerator twitches quickly etching into happy minds.

If any of this is giving you an excited glow, then Dominic Szablewski is your new best friend. Diving into the source files (which he’s documented [here](http://phoboslab.org/log/2015/04/reverse-engineering-wipeout-psx)), he’s put each of the original’s tracks into a format that allows you to experience them in your browser. To sweeten the deal, you can even view the ships and logos designed by The Designers Republic, *and* play the soundtrack underneath.

This might actually qualify as The Best Thing Ever. Relive those glory days [here](http://phoboslab.org/wipeout/).

Did You Buy A Wii U This Year? You May Have Free Digital Deluxe eShop Credit Waiting For You

Just like I did.

Remember the promotion Nintendo ran at the beginning of the year, where (after buying a WiiU) any purchase from their eShop would earn you points? Well, if you have been happily buying the odd title for it, there’s a good chance you have some eShop credit waiting for you.

But you have to hurry a little.

Next Year’s Broken Assassin’s Creed Game Will Be Victory

assassins_creed_victory

Just in case you were wondering, Ubisoft will be following up the broken *Assassin’s Creed Unity* – a game so utterly unfinished that they decided to give whole games away to pacify those that had bought the Season Pass – and the newly-released broken arcade racer *The Crew* – [which has a day-one patch to enable players to, you know, join a Crew, but is still plagued by intermittent, progress-wiping connection failures](http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2014-12-03-the-crew-is-broken-but-packed-with-potential) – with a new broken *Assassin’s Creed*, this time subtitled *Victory*, set in Victorian London.

It’s quite the scoop by Kotaku, and one that Ubisoft is none too happy about. The new location could actually be exciting if we didn’t already know that it will likely carry the same crunching problems and tired gameplay requirements.

If you’re still interested in this drained franchise, head over to the [full article on Kotaku](http://kotaku.com/next-years-big-assassins-creed-is-set-in-victorian-lond-1665343788) to discover all of *Victory*’s new secrets. Like a grappling hook. And train-top combat. Yay.

Why I’ve Stopped Playing Destiny

Destiny sit

Maybe you [read my review](https://awesomefriday.ca/2014/09/destiny-bang-zoom-eventually-to-the-moon/). Maybe you took the message – that it’s all about the finely-tuned shooting and the loot rather than story progression – and bought a copy to experience it yourself. Maybe you’re enjoying it as much as I was. It was going so well up to a point, but following a few moments of realisation, it’s sat dormant in my hard drive for a week.

So, what changed?

Destiny: Bang, Zoom, Eventually To The Moon

Destiny1

Bungie’s *Destiny* is the biggest game of the year so far and [apparently](http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2014-09-10-activision-destiny-most-successful-new-video-game-franchise-launch-ever) the highest-selling day one digital console release ever, but how does the actual game hold up against the massive expectations?

Well, if you’re a fan of *Halo*’s tight gunplay, then you’ll be in heaven. However, if you’re expecting the kind of intense single-player narrative from Bungie’s days with Master Chief, then it may leave you wanting. But this is one of *Destiny*’s main tricks; wide, open and full of excitement, it invites you to find your own stories.

And what stories they can be.
