‘Toy Story 4’ Is Happening; John Lasseter Insists It’s Not About The Money

Toy Story

Pixar has announced that they are making a fourth Toy Story movie to première in 2017. Mixed feelings abound.

The problem here is that Toy Story 3 ended basically perfectly, basically as a film and as the final part of a trilogy. That is to say that there doesn’t really feel like there is a need for another movie, which means that it feels like it must be a cash in.

To be fair, I don’t know that I feel that way. A third Toy Story movie didn’t really feel like a great idea at the time but it turned out to be amazing. Plus, regardless of how you feel about Pixar making sequels, there is this quote from director John Lasseter to consdier:

> “A lot of people in the industry view us doing sequels as being for the business of it, but for us it’s pure passion,” said Lasseter, who directed the first two “Toy Story” films. “We only make sequels when we have a story that’s as good as or better than the original.

From everything I know about how Pixar works this quote seems to be true. Or at least that’s the perception they want us all to have. I, for one, believe it.

Also interesting is that Rashida Jones is involved in the writing. I know her as an actress and not so much as a writer, but she is pretty great so here’s hoping that she has a great idea and it’s not just some kinda stunt casting.

In any event we have a lot of time before we find out. _Toy Story 4_ will première on 16 June 2017.
