The Maze Runner is a good movie which has an annoying ending. There’s a lot I could, and probably will, say about it but and the end of the day that’s all you need to know.
The Mysteries of Laura & The Other NBC Shows You Should Be Watching
The first of the 2014 Fall Premieres has arrived in the form of Debra Messing and NBC’s The Mysteries of Laura. Messing is as charming, funny, serious and believable as always. Which is good because without her this show would be firmly in Taxi Brooklyn territory. What? Exactly. Continue reading “The Mysteries of Laura & The Other NBC Shows You Should Be Watching”
Destiny: Bang, Zoom, Eventually To The Moon
Bungie’s *Destiny* is the biggest game of the year so far and [apparently](http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2014-09-10-activision-destiny-most-successful-new-video-game-franchise-launch-ever) the highest-selling day one digital console release ever, but how does the actual game hold up against the massive expectations?
Well, if you’re a fan of *Halo*’s tight gunplay, then you’ll be in heaven. However, if you’re expecting the kind of intense single-player narrative from Bungie’s days with Master Chief, then it may leave you wanting. But this is one of *Destiny*’s main tricks; wide, open and full of excitement, it invites you to find your own stories.
And what stories they can be.

Confirmed: Antoine Fuqua is Directing Denzel Washington in ‘The Magnificent Seven’ Remake
Remember we [told you a few months ago that this might happen](https://awesomefriday.ca/2014/06/denzel-washington-to-maybe-star-in-magnificent-seven-remake-for-antoine-fuqua/)? Well it’s happening.
[Variety reports](http://variety.com/2014/film/news/equalizer-director-antoine-fuqua-on-denzel-washingtons-work-ethic-magnificent-seven-remake-1201300471/) in passing that _Magnificent Seven_ will be the next team up for the pair whose current film, _The Equalizer_ is doing so well in festivals that a sequel is already in the works.
There’s bound to be some people who aren’t too happy with a classic being remade but _The Magnificent Seven_ is fact a remake of _Seven Samurai_, and has been remade over an over and over again (a group of heroes from different backgrounds band together to fight off a villain and his many nameless henchmen, sound familiar Marvel fans?).
Ultimately movies like this are going to be remade so maybe we should just hope that the remakes are good. Right? Right.
Here’s a Photo of Hayley Atwell, Neal McDonough, and Kenneth Choi Reprising Their ‘Captain America: The First Avengers’ Characters on ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’
The new Marvel TV series _Agent Carter_ doesn’t début for some time yet by _Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D._ starts up again soon and the première episode os going to feature a flashback to the 1940s/50s featuring Hayley Atwell as Agent Carter, Neal McDonough as Dum Dum Durgan, and Kenneth Choi as Jim Morita, all reprising their roles from _Captain America: The First Avenger_. There’s no word on McDonough or Choi joining the cast of _Agent Carter_ just yet but I kind of hope they rope as many of The Howling Commandos in as they can as well as Tommy Lee Jones as General Tommy Lee Jones and Dominic Cooper as Howard Stark as much as possible.
Admittedly, these guys have careers, but hopefully they find some time.

Here’s a Photo of Vision in ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’
And since I’m on holiday here’s something I didn’t post the other day but meant to, a marketing banner for _Avengers: Age of Ultron_ which clearly shows the new character Vision who will be played by Paul Bettany.
Not much to say here except that he looks like the colourful version of Vision does in the comics. That’s a good thing because the plain white version is boring as hell.
Also of interest: Captain America’s costume update, Iron Man’s armour tweaks (and a return to the red-dominant colour scheme), and Avengers Tower in the background clearly being the renovated Stark Tower from Avengers 1.
Nifty!
Here’s A Photo Of The New Batmobile
Here you go folks. [Zack Snyder tweeted an official image of the new Batmobile](https://twitter.com/ZackSnyder/status/509889431210192896). It looks… fine. There were some photos posted yesterday by a bystander of the thing parked in the street which I didn’t post, partly because i am on holiday and partly because they were terrible photos, but this gives a much better idea of the actual look.
Yes, there’s a big gun on the front. Apparently there is more than a little backlash around the web about the gun but I don’t really care. Every Bat-vehicle so far has had lots of guns and Zack Snyder’s style isn’t exactly subtle, so why are we at all surprised?
Besides, this new franchise has already missed the point of Superman and this movie in particular only exists to set up more movies in the future. Another studio tried that with one of the most popular superheroes on the planet this year and it went, uh, poorly.
Don’t get me wrong here: I sincerely hope this movie turns out to be fantastic. I really do. WE’re living in a golden age of nerd properties being cool and I want to revel in every moment of it before it passes. I just have no faith that this director and this writer are going to deliver a good movie. They couldn’t even come up with a good title after all.
‘The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1’ Poster: The Girl On Fire; Trailer To Follow Monday
We’ve already seen a boat load of posters for this movie but this time we see Katniss’ face!
’23 Jump Street’ is Happening; Phil Lord and Chris Miller to Produce, Unconfirmed to Direct
Some of the funniest jokes in _22 Jump Street_, including an entire montage during the end credits, were all the teasing of future sequels. These were all making fun of the notion that the studio would take their success and then run it into the ground by endlessly sequelizing it.
So now the studio is taking that success and starting to endlessly sequelize it.
‘Good Kill’ Poster: Andrew Niccol and Ethan Hawke, Together Again
Ethan Hawke has a movie making the rounds on the festival circuit right now where he plays a drone pilot. The poster is simple and effective and completely awesome.
