A few trailers for your enjoyment this morning, both of which seem to echo the protagonists-trapped-underground-with-terrible-ancient-evil scenario so beautifully captured in Neil Marshall’s The Descent (pictured above). Come and watch.
First, The Pyramid, where a group of explorers unwittingly unearth something in a secret Egyptian pyramid that should have definitely remained buried:
And second, a trailer for As Above, So Below, where a group of explorers unwittingly unearth something in the Paris catacombs that should have definitely remained buried:
And, for reference, here’s the trailer for 2005’s The Descent, where a group of explorers OK I’ll stop:
Now, facetiousness aside, this is actually one of my favourite kinds of horror movies and a perky Lara Croftian female protagonist just tops it off nicely. However, it looks like the evil in As Above, So Below isn’t weird creatures (which is fine) but the projected hellish fears of each of the protagonists (which, as I learnt from Event Horizon, is not, not fine), so I’ll probably give that a home viewing. Still, as someone who’s a huge fan of this genre, I’m excited to have two great examples coming really soon.
