Last week was my first Whoing, if you missed it I wrote all about it here. I figured that would give me a bit of a base for this week in my second spin around the T.A.R.D.I.S. Of course it didn’t. Here’s how it went… (SPOILER ALERT! SPOILER ALERT!) Continue reading…

Podcast / Comments Off on Podcast Episode 71: Feminism and Harassment in Gaming and Nerd Culture
This week on a very special episode of Awesome Friday we discussed the ongoing situation in the gaming world for the last two weeks; namely the harassment of video game developer Zoe Quinn and video game critic Anita Sarkeesian.
None of us are surprised at the levels of rage and misogyny directed at these women but each of us reacted in similar but different ways and though we had intended to touch on the subject and then carry on with our regular movie, game, and book reviews and recommendations we ended up talking about this for over an hour.
Suffice to say this episode of our podcast has different content than you’re used to hearing from us but it’s a discussion we didn’t want to avoid having and the result is a conversation we’re all glad we had and are looking forward to sharing with all of you.

Trailers / Comments Off on Rosewater Trailer: A True Story of Bravery Directed by Jon Stewart
Jon Stewart is bes tknown for The Daily Show where he routinely skewers the daily news. Now he’s adapted and directed the story of Iranian-born Canadian journalist Maziar Bahari who was arrested in Iran on charges of espionage while covering the 2009 elections in that country. He was held for 118 days and interrogated over and over and over again. Gael Garcia Bernal plays Bahari in the movie as he endures this trial. Let’s take a look.
Trailers / Comments Off on Foxcatcher Trailer: Another Contender In The Oscar Race
An established comedic star in heavy makeup for a dramatic turn alongside an up and coming star and a critically loved character actor in film based on a true story of recent American sports history directed by a guy who has only made 4 films in 16 years and gained Oscar nominations for two of them? Of course this is an Oscar contender.
To answer your question: Yes that is Steve Carellin heavy makeup being creepy as all hell. There’s not much to go on by Channing Tatum and Mark Ruffalo look good and Director Bennett Miller has only made Capote and Moneyball since 2005 soooooo this is one to watch.
14th November this will be in theatres. Make your plans now. Or not.
When Olympic Gold Medal winning wrestler Mark Schultz (Channing Tatum) is invited by wealthy heir John du Pont (Steve Carell) to move on to the du Pont estate and help form a team to train for the 1988 Seoul Olympics at his new state-of-the-art training facility, Schultz jumps at the opportunity, hoping to focus on his training and finally step out of the shadow of his revered brother, Dave (Mark Ruffalo). Driven by hidden needs, du Pont sees backing Schultz’s bid for Gold and the chance to “coach” a world-class wrestling team as an opportunity to gain the elusive respect of his peers and, more importantly, his disapproving mother (Vanessa Redgrave).
Flattered by the attention and entranced by du Pont’s majestic world, Mark comes to see his benefactor as a father figure and grows increasingly dependent on him for approval. Though initially supportive, du Pont’s mercurial personality turns and he begins to lure Mark into an unhealthy lifestyle that threatens to undermine his training.

Television, Trailers / Comments Off on Legends – Series Premiere Tonight on Bravo (Canada)
Sean Bean, Ali Larter, Tina Majorino star in the new drama series Legends that premieres in Canada on Bravo tonight at 9pm. Based on the novel Legends: A Novel of Dissimulation by Robert Littell for which he won the LA Times Book Prize in 2005. Developed by Howard Gordon (24, Homeland), Jeffrey Nachmanoff (The Day After Tomorrow, Traitor, The Tourist) & Mark Bomback (Live Free or Die Hard, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, Fifty Shades of Grey). A real mixed bag of experience, should be interesting.
Also on Bravo the 2nd season of Graceland is coming to a close. If you haven’t seen this show yet it’s something that would make a great end of summer binge-watch.
Book 3 finished off on such an emotional rollercoaster that it has taken me a few days to figure out what to say about it. Even now that some time has passed, I’m still at a loss for words. My recap and thoughts can be found after the jump…

Trailers / Comments Off on Awesome New ‘Interstellar’ TV Trailer Is Awesome
WE still don’t 100% know what Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar is really about (saving the world?) and this trailer doesn’t feature much in the way of new footage but on the other hand all the footage is amazing and you get to hear Michael Caine read Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night so just watch it already because that’s awesome.
The 66th Primetime Emmy Awards were held on a Monday and a month earlier this year to accommodate both the VMAs and NFL season. But it’s okay, you’ve seen this show before. No, really. Seth Meyers gave a fantastic monologue but beyond that it was pretty much a lot of the same as last year and the year before. I was so bored that I couldn’t even muster up annoyance at the fact that the President of TV (as Stephen Colbert called him) literally put Sofia Vergara onto a rotating pedestal so that people would have something to look at while he spoke.
