Alan Turning Biopic ‘The Imitation Game’ Gets Two Trailers, Lots of Cumberbatch

Benedict Cumberbatch / The Imitation Game

Benedict Cumberbatch stars as Alan Turing, the father of modern computing. A period piece featuring a great cast and a protagonist who struggles against adversity (more on that in a moment) during World War 2? I think I smell an Oscar contender.

We have not one but two trailers after the jump, one from Weinstein Company in the US and one from Studio Canal in the UK.

The US Trailer:

The UK Trailer:

The US trailer is, at least for me, more effective. The US trailer show a more coherent summary of the set up and plot and actually includes –if you look and listen _very_ closely– the fact that Turing was homosexual in an era when homosexuality was criminalized in the UK. In fact Turing would be prosecuted in the early 1950s for indecency, convicted, and rather than go to jail accepted probation with the condition that he receive treatments that effectively left him chemically castrated. The conviction also resulted in his losing security clearance and being removed from cryptography and computing projects thereafter and a few years later Turing killed himself.

So it’s not a story with a happy ending even if you count that he was psothumously pardoned since that didn’t happen until last year.

_The Imitation Game_ is out 21st November will likely be one of the frontrunners for all the Oscars.
