Sony

Here we go! The last of today’s big conferences. Let’s see what Sony has in store to counter this morning’s strong show by Microsoft. Come on in!

No need to refresh, just sit back and enjoy!

Simon 9 June 201418:03

Hello! Welcome to today’s final show. Hoping for some tasty news on Playstation Now, the game subscription service. Also, a Heavenly Sword announcement. Yep.

Simon 9 June 201418:03

Show’s just about to start.

Simon 9 June 201418:05

Straight in with a trailer for…Destiny?

Simon 9 June 201418:05

Yep. Destiny backstory.

Simon 9 June 201418:05

The screen is absolutely huge. It wraps around the auditorium.

Simon 9 June 201418:06

Lovely CG trailer showing the lush landscapes.

Simon 9 June 201418:08

Lots of gameplay clips of your super knight taking down chunky alien enemies.

Simon 9 June 201418:08

It has that Bungie look, if that means anything to you.

Simon 9 June 201418:09

Andrew House out on stage now.

Simon 9 June 201418:09

“An uncompromising commitment to gamers”

Simon 9 June 201418:10

Nooo Ustream, don’t die now

Simon 9 June 201418:12

The stream’s completely dead on both my computers.

Simon 9 June 201418:14

Lots of people not seeing this so it’s not just me. So frustrating.

Simon 9 June 201418:15

OK, the Giant Bomb stream seems to be working. It’s got a VO from the writers there, but it’s better than nothing.

Simon 9 June 201418:16

Just caught the end of The Order. Hunting monsters in 1800s.

Simon 9 June 201418:17

Something beautiful on screen now. Blue bird and yellow fish. Entwined. Something new!

Simon 9 June 201418:19

So, Entwined. Twin sticks control two different characters, one on either side of the screen. Looks gorgeous, very much in the style of Rez and Child Of Eden. MORE PLEASE.

Simon 9 June 201418:19

Entwined out right now on PS4! Ten bucks.

Simon 9 June 201418:22

Ooh. InFamous First Light – a female protagonist DLC that you don’t actually need the original game to play.

Simon 9 June 201418:22

And BOOM! Straight into LittleBigPlanet 3!

Simon 9 June 201418:23

New characters! Oddsock and Toggle. They’re building an army.

Simon 9 June 201418:23

And Swoop. A sockbird.

Simon 9 June 201418:25

Oddsock can double jump, Toggle can either be tiny or fat and huge, and Swoop can fly.

Simon 9 June 201418:28

Like the other games in the series, it looks absolutely lush, but I’ve always become frustrated with how it actually plays.

Simon 9 June 201418:28

Out in November. That’s a great Christmas game.

Simon 9 June 201418:30

Wow. So all the user generated levels will be instantly available in LBP3 on launch, with improved graphics.

Simon 9 June 201418:30

New IP! Bring it on.

Simon 9 June 201418:30

Waitwaitwait Miyazaki

Director of Demon’s/Dark Souls

Simon 9 June 201418:31

Gothic trailer, dark and brooding. Pretty creepy enemies actually.

Simon 9 June 201418:32

Bloodborne. Was this Project Beast that got spoiled a few days ago? I think so.

Simon 9 June 201418:33

Hmm. More a creepy trailer than anything, but tons of atmosphere. Out next year.

Simon 9 June 201418:33

Far Cry 4 again.

Simon 9 June 201418:34

Gameplay this time. It’s a mountainous open world and it looks GORGEOUS

Which worked so well for Just Cause 2

Simon 9 June 201418:36

Clambering on rooftops taking down guards with a crossbow and pistol.

Simon 9 June 201418:36

And now I’m chasing them in a jeep on the edge of a mountain pass. The local radio station is amazing.

Simon 9 June 201418:37

Fell off the mountain and now I’m flying in my wingsuit because of course I am.

Simon 9 June 201418:38

Second play has joined, flying a gyrocoptor to attack a compound. All of this is seamless by the way.

Simon 9 June 201418:38

Elephants getting involved.

Simon 9 June 201418:39

Matt, this looks like shiny first person Just Cause 2. MATT.

Simon 9 June 201418:39

Over now. That looks amazing. Excited.

Simon 9 June 201418:40

MP over PSN – if you own the game, you can invite others to play with you even if they don’t own it, only on PSN. That’s very cool.

Simon 9 June 201418:41

New trailer for Deep Silver zombie game.

Simon 9 June 201418:41

It’s actually very darkly funny.

Simon 9 June 201418:41

Jogger oblivious to zombie attacks behind him.

Simon 9 June 201418:42

Oops. Now he’s turned. That’s going to hurt.

Simon 9 June 201418:43

Seamless transition form land to space in spaceship.

Simon 9 June 201419:00

I can’t tell you how much I need this game in my life.

Simon 9 June 201419:00

It looks like Harry Harrison: The Game.

Simon 9 June 201419:01

No Man’s Sky. Amazing.

Simon 9 June 201419:02

Every player starts on a new procedurally created planet in an infinite universe.

Simon 9 June 201419:03

I want to marry this game. I want to have babies with it. It’s the game of my imagination.

Simon 9 June 201419:03

OK THERE YOU GO – God

Simon 9 June 201419:30

Powers available in the US in December, if you still care. First episode free. Woop.

Oh, we get Powers for free. Uh-huh.

Now, Ratchet & Clank! The Movie.

Original Ratchet & Clank being remastered for PS4. Available in first half of 2015.

Simon 9 June 201419:33

The Last Of Us remaster now.

Simon 9 June 201419:34

Well, it looks stunning, but it already does, so no great shakes really.

Simon 9 June 201419:34

However, if you haven’t played it, this will be a treat.

Simon 9 June 201419:35

Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain trailer!

Love Kojima, and these games, especially 4.

Snake! Stop that pony tail RIGHT NOW

Simon 9 June 201419:37

It looks stunning. The Fox Engine is glorious.

Simon 9 June 201419:39

The latter Metal Gears are games to be savoured and this looks no exception. Would love to spend some time with that.

Simon 9 June 201419:43

Now some Batman: Arkham Knight gameplay. Speeding the Batmobile around Gotham.

Simon 9 June 201419:46

Yeah, this looks great. My worry is that the open city will take away game’s focus though.

Simon 9 June 201419:46

Looks like Scarecrow is one of the game’s main protagonists.

Simon 9 June 201419:47

PS4 version comes with exclusive Scarecrow nightmare mission.

Simon 9 June 201419:47

One last title. Uncharted 4!

Simon 9 June 201419:48

“Footage has been directly captured from PS4”.

Holy. Shit.

Simon 9 June 201419:50

VO with Sully – Drake asking for help, one last time. Moody jungle with corpses hanging in cages. Subtitled “A Thief’s End”.

Simon 9 June 201419:51

Closing montage now of all the games from show. Some great stuff in there.

Simon 9 June 201419:51

NO MAN’S SKY

Simon 9 June 201419:51

Ahem.

Simon 9 June 201419:54

So, an interesting show, but one that could have been edited right down. I also think the overlong focus on the TV shows might bite them in the arse a bit, but the games just about made up for it.

Simon 9 June 201419:54

To be fair to Microsoft, though, they did a much better job of keeping the games flowing. However, there’s far fewer games I actually want to play on that system than on this.

Simon 9 June 201419:55

And when it comes down to it, that’s the most important factor to take into account.

Simon 9 June 201419:56

Anyway, it’ll be interesting to see what Nintendo have in store tomorrow morning and to read what the larger gaming communities make of the shows today. Ohh, I wonder who won E3?

Simon 9 June 201419:56

NO-ONE CARES

Simon 9 June 201419:57

So, thanks for reading and I hope you enjoyed the day. I’m off to dream of No Man’s Sky. Goodnight!
