Dracula, a famous warrior, refuses to give a Sultan his son and then has to find a way to kill the entire army the Sultan sends after him. Naturally that means becoming Dracula the vampire.
So basically Dracula (Luke Evans) goes looking for great power to single handedly defeat the sultan (Dominic Cooper), becomes a vampire and then presumably saves the day but succumbs to being a damned vampire. I’m on board with that idea. I hope the film is better executed than it looks.
The story is loosely based on something that actually happened, when Vlad II “The Impaler” Tepes (the original inspiration for Bram Stoker’s Dracula) refused to pay homage to Sultan Mehmed “The Conqueror” II and then made a name for himself during a night attack on the sultan’s forces.
So that’s something. I like Dominic Cooper and Luke Evans as well. Both of them have been in high profile films but neither has quite made it to “household name” status just yet. Maybe this will do that for one of them. Or maybe not. Either way we have to wait until 17th October to find out.
