Atom Egoyan has made a movie set in a remote, snow covered town about a girl who goes missing. That’s exactly the kind of movie we should be excited about Atom Egoyan directing. Seriously.
This kind of feels like a return to the type of movie that made Atom Egoyan famous: families with dark secrets in small towns where it becomes important who knew and didn’t know said secrets, and interpersonal relationships forming and being torn asunder by what’s going on. It works in The Sweet Hereafter, and Exotica, and I’m fairly confident it’ll work here.
Add to that the cast (Ryan Reynolds, Scott Speedman, Mireille Enos, Rosario Dawson, Kevin Durand, and Bruce Greenwood) and you have the makings of something that could be pretty special.
The film will premiere at Cannes and doesn’t yet have a release date.
