Awesome: Frozen is Now The Highest Grossing Animated Film of All Time

Frozen

And has cracked the top ten of all time!

According to [Box Office Mojo this morning](http://www.boxofficemojo.com/movies/?id=frozen2013.htm) _Frozen_ has just reached a worldwide box office take of $1,072,402,000 which mean’s it has surpassed the previous record holder, _Toy Story 3_, by about $9 Million and the previous #10 on the all time list. _Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest_ by around $6 Million.

This is a pretty big deal really. Frozen has been out and playing for weeks and months conveying a story of love and tolerance and it’s been embraced in a big way by, well, just about everyone that isn’t off on the right-wing fringes (but what do they ever embrace anyway?). Having only just opened in Japan _Frozen_ is set to climb the list even higher, it’s only about $8 Million behind the current #9 on the list, _The Dark Knight Rises_ and about $45 Million behind #8, _Skyfall_.

Here’s the [All Time Top 10](http://www.boxofficemojo.com/alltime/world/) as it currently stands ($ in Millions):

1. Avatar (Fox, 2009/*) – $2,782.3
2. Titanic (Paramount, 1997/*) – $2,186.8
3. Marvel’s The Avengers (Buena Vista, 2012) – $1,518.6
4. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 (Warner Bros., 2011) – $1,341.5
5. Iron Man 3 (Buena Vista, 2013) – $1,215.4
6. Transformers: Dark of the Moon (Paramount/Dreamworks, 2011) – $1,123.8
7. The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (New Line, 2003/*) – $1,119.9
8. Skyfall (Sony, 2012) – $1,108.6
9. The Dark Knight Rises (Warner Bros., 2012) – $1,084.4
10. Frozen (Buena Vista, 2013) – $1,072.4

I’d like to see Frozen higher on that list, but then again I’d just like to see _The Dark Knight Rises_ and _Transformers: Dark of the Moon_ off of it entirely. They just go to show you that you don’t need to churn out a quality product to make all the money, you just need to market it effectively.

There are a couple of films on the way this year that will probably make a decent run for the top ten (including _Captain America: The Winter Soldier_ this week) but for now let’s celebrate that a *great* movie has made all the money this time around.
