Awesome: Paul Bettany to Play Vision In ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’

Paul Bettany

Paul Bettany (and JARVIS) will get to show his face in _Avengers: Age of Ultron_. This is a good thing.

[Variety has confirmed](http://variety.com/2014/film/news/paul-bettany-to-play-the-vision-in-marvels-avengers-age-of-ultron-1201090635/) the news that Bettany, who has voiced Tony Stark’s artificial intelligence best friend (and butler) 4 times already (all three Iron Man films and _The Avengers_) will get to suit up as Vision for the next big event film.

Vision has, like many comic book characters, a long and complicated history. Originally created as a weapon to fight the Avengers by Ultron he is an android who with various powers over the years.

Since Ultron is presumably created as the result of Tony Stark fiddling around with his various armours (rather than by Hank Pym) and something going bad, it’s not a great leap to imagine that JARVIS will end up in his own synthetic body somehow, either starting as a corrupted version working for Ultron or by Stark to help fight Ultron.

There’s lots of possibilities here and it’s pretty exciting. Hopefully the dry wit remains and, personally, I really hope they go with this version of the costume:

Vision

Vision also is a romantic partner with Scarlett Witch at various points in the comics, and a version of her is in the movie played by Elizabeth Olsen.

Regardless of how it goes down? Vision is a long standing Avenger and has deep ties to both the heroes and the villain of the next movie, and I’ve been a big fan of Paul Bettany’s work for a long time (I think the first thing I saw him in was _A Knights Tale where he stole every scene as Chaucer) so I can’t wait to see where they go with it.
