Game of Thrones Season 4 ‘ Whenever someone asks me about a movie one of my two standing jokes is “everyone dies at the end”. The problem with saying that about Game of Thrones is that may yet turn out to be a legitimate spoiler, as the new poster for season 4 makes clear.

Something For The Weekend: Get Lost in Space Engineers

Space-Engineers-screenshots-5

I had a dream as a boy, fuelled by Star Wars and Dan Dare and Thunderbirds: spaceships, yawning through the void of space, taking me from one adventure to the next. Games have always been a way for me to realise my childlike flights of fancy, allowing me to feel the grace and freedom from unrestricted flight and adventure that normally wouldn’t be possible.

And then Space Engineers came along and it’s basically the game of my boyhood dreams.

Review: Non Stop

Non-Stop

Liam Neeson is a celebrated actor. He’s been in epic romances, costumed adventures, and important historical dramas. Lately though he’s carved out a niche for himself as a slightly older action star. There’s only one reason why this works: Liam Neeson is great. The movies he’s making are kind of dumb, heavy handed, and full of plot holes, but for some reason they just kinda work. Taken is probably the first (and best) example of this. Non-Stop is just the latest.

The Amazing Spider-Man

Sony doesn’t have many big franchises but the one they do have has made a lot of money to date. Naturally that means they gotta start milking that cow dry.

Ugh.

An Oral History of Ghostbusters

Ghostbusters

It’s strange to think that Ghostbusters was released 30 years ago, let alone that one of the key players in the film both in front of and behind the camera is no longer with us. The film is one of the seminal works of the 80s and of the childhoods of basically everyone I know. Esquire Magazine has put together an oral history of the movie and it’s most definitely worth reading.

Awesome: 90 Years of Warner Brothers Logos

News / Comments Off on Awesome: 90 Years of Warner Brothers Logos

Warner Brothers

Films generally start with a logo. Many studios, the best example of which is probably MGM, never alter their logo. It stands as an enduring brand. Some studios will alter their logo to fit the tone of the film though and the best example of this is probably Warner Brothers.

Designer Christian Annyas has assembled a collection of images of the Warner Brothers logo. That’s 13 primary logos with over 200 variations over the last 90 years.

Above is one of my favourites, the version used in The Maltese Falcon in 1941. Below the jump are a few more of my that I like. Yes I’m aware this is totally dorky.

Review: Need for Speed

Need for Speed

When Need For Speed opens next month you may read that one of the selling points is that all of the stunts are practical and not CG. That–to me– seems strange considering it’s an adaptation of the EA driving game series. One would think that fans of the game would have no problem at all with wildly improbable physics and unlikely crash scenarios that might have been less expensive to render in computers than with real cars and stunt drivers but lets give the makers credit: When it comes to cars and driving they deliver.
