The Last Starfighter

Do you remember being full of wonder? A time when you thought anything was possible? When you thought, when you knew, that video games were the future? Well why not take a trip down memory lane this weekend and check out The Last Starfighter?

The Last Starfighter follows Alex, a kid who plays a video game that turns out to be an aptitude test for an intergalactic star league to be a Starfighter, a pilot of a space fighter against the forces of Xur and the Ko-Dan armada. Yeah, that’s right, a movie where a kid plays a video game and gets recruited to be a space fighter pilot.

Look, I’m not gonna lie, The Last Starfighter isn’t exactly the best movie ever made. It was rushed out in a post Star Wars world to capitalize on the frenzy. The plot is predictable and silly and maye one of the most blatant hero’s journey/monomyth stories ever told, and the acting is pretty well over the top but you know what? It’s a fun movie and whether you’ve seen it or not will likely take you on a trip down memory lane.

Also, it has some sweet 1980s CGI graphics going on.
