Normally I don’t like to post too much about casting that isn’t fully locked but this might be pretty amazing if it pans out.
After bringing out a fresh face in UFC star Ronda Rousey to join the cast of “Fast & Furious 7,” Universal has moved onto veteran actor to join its acting ranks with Kurt Russell in negotiations to join the next installment.
No description on who Russell would be playing, but sources say it is the role that Uni originally offered to Denzel Washington — clearly showing its importance to the films story.
No plot details have been unveiled yet, except that the film will return to Los Angeles after the previous five films were set in other locations.
I happen to really like Kurt Russell and I think he might be good in the type of role that these movies typically need people for. That is to say, if they need a suit wearing cigar smoking big shot bad guy or if they need a grizzled old school driver to help out the team (maybe a friend of Dom’s father?), Russell is a good choice.
They’ve also recently added both UFC star Rhonda Rousey and martial artist Tony Jaa, so looks new director James Wan is sticking to the “go big or go home” attitude of his predecessor Justin Lin. The stinger at the end of Furious 6 also spells out that this one is going to complete the chronology of the films finally (Tokyo Drift technically takes place after Furious 6) as well.
Either way I’m excited!
7 Fast 7 Furious is scheduled for 11 July 2014.
